Because of the difference in color and so on, the Great Brahma is superior, so it is called Great Brahma. Because the light of other Brahmas is small, it is called Small Light. Because immeasurable great light emanates from them, it is called Immeasurable Light. They are produced from meditation with joy, and like lightning seen from the clouds, they have a continuous stream of aggregates that emit bright light to each other, so they are called Luminous. Or, because the light of such a form illuminates, it is called Luminous. The so-called virtue is said to be the light of the body gathered together and unchanging. Because its light is smaller than that of the previous superiors, it is called Small Virtue. They are immeasurably great, so they cannot be measured, therefore they are called Immeasurable Virtue. They are virtue, that is, light universally arises and all increases, so it is called Virtue Increase. The so-called increase means everything, that is, it is produced from meditation without joy, and dwells having perfected its own entity. They are like a lamp inside a jewel box, dwelling in the light of the jewel, mixed with its own light, becoming one light and dwelling, the body appearing to burn as one. Because they have cultivated detachment from desire from consciousness, and only the aggregate of form that has manifested is present, they do not have consciousness, therefore they are called Unconscious. Cloudless and increasing merit are easy to understand. In them, because it is a great fruit produced from the power of meditation, it is called Great Fruit. Because they possess the five aggregates, dwell at the very edge of the realm of individual beings, have no harm whatsoever, and do not abandon their own dwelling place even for a short time, they are called Not Great. Some consider it to be without desire, according to their treatises, they are without what is not in the lower ones, so they are called Without Desire. Because they do not cause suffering to anyone, they are called Without Suffering. Appearing to possess happiness without poverty and being extremely captivating, they are called Abundant Appearance. Others say it is called Beautiful. Because the view is completely pure and is seen very well, it is called Very Well Seen. Because it is the peak of perfection, and there is no other above them, it is called Not Below, which is the ultimate.
