For the sake of action, and, repeatedly focusing on the fact that the sign itself is earth, one establishes it in the totality of earth. Similarly, for the other nine totalities, such as water, one should observe them in the same way. Having previously cultivated familiarity, the totality of water arises spontaneously from rivers, ponds, lakes, and so on. Similarly, the totality of fire arises from the tips of smoke from a forest fire, and so on. From the light blown by the wind, and the leaves of trees, and so on, this wind abides, and this wind utterly destroys, from this the totality of wind arises. From laying out blue flowers, jewels, clothes, and so on, the totality of blue arises. Likewise, from yellow, red, and white, the totality of yellow and so on arises, and from paint, silver, the moon's disc, and so on, the totality of white arises. From moonlight entering through a window, and the place of sunlight, and the collection of light arising from the direction of a wall, and the light arising from the gaps in the collection of tree leaves, and observing the moonlight moved by the wind, the totality of consciousness arises. From holes in windows, and holes in walls, and holes and so on, the totality of space arises. For any beginner who has not practiced meditation, such yoga will not arise, therefore, one should understand the distinction of complete practice. Therefore, one should fill a space devoid of distinctions of color such as blue, or any container such as a bowl dripping from a clean cloth, with water, place it in a very good place, sit comfortably, and begin to focus, this is the complete practice of the totality of water. Furthermore, one should cut a substance with essence into pieces, and burn it under a tree or on an unparalleled platform in the manner of a lacquered bowl, creating a hole one finger-breadth or four fingers wide, place leather or any grass mat in front, sit comfortably, and focus on the pottery and trees below, with smoke tips above, and in the center, one should grasp the sign of a dense heap of burning flames, this is the complete practice of the totality of fire. Carve a hole in the wall, or if there is no hole, a window with a hole

Emptying the inside, sitting close by, wherever the wind touches any part of the body, focus your attention there; this is the exhaustion practice of completely purifying the wind. Or, a blue lotus, or trees like the Gana Rika, etc., after washing with saffron, use a blue cloth, or a closed lotus, etc., spread any container and fill it. Cover the blue cloth like the face of a large drum, or other brightly colored peacock feathers, or blue Pāśala, or blue eye medicine, etc., or any kind of colored pigment, apply it on the wall, make a mandala, apply it in a circular shape, and completely separate it with any different color. Sit close to it on a comfortable cushion, and begin to focus your mind; this should be done as the blue exhaustion practice. Yellow, red, and white are also the same method, the difference being that wherever it is blue, add the color of yellow, etc., there. Also, light a lamp inside a vase, cover it, make a hole that is not too big, place it facing the wall, and let the light from the lamp shine on the wall, forming a circular halo of light that lasts for a long time; focus your attention there, this is what should be done as the exhaustion practice of the consciousness aggregate. Also, in a place not covered by a platform, wall, grass mat, cloth, etc., or not completely covered, or completely covered, make a hole that is a span high or four fingers wide, focus your attention there; this completely separated place is what should be done as the exhaustion practice of space. Thus, for the time being, know that these are the differences of complete purification. Those nine ways, whether the exhaustion practice is done or not done, will appear with the two characteristics of clinging and separate appearance. The sign of clinging to water as the exhaustion practice is the state of violent shaking, bubbles, blisters, and mixed rainwater appearing, continuing to exist like that is the fault of the exhaustion practice, know that. The sign of separate appearance is the unwavering covering of the sky, like a jeweled fan, or like a mandala of a mirror made of jewels.
