As it is said, it is for the sake of attaining the infinite and boundless extraordinary wisdom. Among them, "infinite" refers to the aspect of being infinite, and "boundless" refers to everything that is not an object. The verses of this extensive sutra are five: the return of forms and so on, the mind relying on inferior vehicles and defilements, various returns of samadhi and so on, the complete exhaustion of limbs, lightness of body and mind, skillful means in the practice of desire, constant celibacy, purity of feeling, the obstacles of aggregates and so on, as well as the aggregates and roots. Counteracting the war of stinginess and so on, as well as the accompanying practices, individually preventing abiding, and not clinging to the Dharma like dust. The determination of one's own ground is to abide in the three grounds, to give up life for the sake of the Dharma, and such sixteen moments are the signs of non-retrogression for the wise who abide in the path of seeing. The signs of the non-retrogressing Bodhisattva Sangha abiding in the path of seeing have been explained. Now, in order to explain the signs of abiding in the path of cultivation, therefore it is said: the path of cultivation is profound. Thus, the Blessed One requested to explain the profound realms well, and repeating the words is for the sake of making the practice repeatedly pure. The so-called "realm," spoken of as abiding, is to show the meaning of having continuity. Where does the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide, from the four mindfulnesses to the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, completely perfecting, is to know that it is the cause of completely perfecting all realizations. Furthermore, what is the profundity of this? Thus it is said: profound emptiness and so on. That is, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-action, non-birth, detachment from desire, cessation, tranquility, suchness, and the ultimate reality are the profound realms that are spoken of. Why are emptiness and so on profound? Profound.

Oh, that is the very nature of being liberated from the extremes of addition and subtraction. Thus it is said. Among these, liberation from the extreme of addition is this: also removing from form, and that the Suchness is without form, this is what is said. Among these, liberation from the extreme of subtraction is this: also showing Nirvana, and that there is no Suchness apart from form, this is what is said. Thus, by removing from all dharmas, and by truly showing Nirvana, therefore the very profound place of form and so on is shown. Furthermore, what is the path of meditation? The decisive factor and the path of seeing, the path and the path of meditation itself, repeatedly contemplating, measuring and ascertaining are the path of meditation. Thus it is said. Whenever, these profound places corresponding to the Perfection of Wisdom, are shown for the sake of closely needing the meaning of removal, this is what is said. Contemplating and acting, is through the wisdom of the nature of hearing. Measuring, is through the wisdom of the nature of thinking. Ascertaining, is through the wisdom of the nature of meditation. Furthermore, what is the place of the path of meditation? The decisive factor and the path of seeing, the path and the path of meditation itself. Thus it is said. I should abide thus, this is what is said, is said in terms of the branch of the decisive factor, as it is said in the Perfection of Wisdom. I should train thus, this is said in terms of the path of seeing, as it is said in the Perfection of Wisdom. I should accomplish thus, this is said in terms of the path of meditation, as it is said in the Perfection of Wisdom. Therefore, in terms of the four decisive factors, the path of seeing and the path of meditation, accomplishing thus, ascertaining thus, closely ascertaining thus, diligently thus, combining thus, striving thus, these six words are spoken. Abiding in the path of meditation itself, how is it a place? Continuously.

Since it is the ground, there is no fault in the later ground being the former ground. The three benefits of the path of meditation are that from completely holding the root of immeasurable virtue, by the example of the many thoughts of a man who has intercourse with another woman, immeasurable merit is born, so in countless eons, one abandons samsara, and by what is called looking back, and ending, it is said that exhaustion, subduing, and not generating what has not been generated, one knows that it is the function of the path of meditation, and that is what is spoken. If so, how many kinds are there? Because it is constant, small, medium, and large ones, the distinctions of small of small, etc., are thought of as nine kinds by aspect. Thus it is said. It should be combined with what is called the side of disagreement and the antidote. The three, small, medium, and large, are the root aspects, and again, if each of them is divided into small, medium, and large distinctions, then there will be nine aspects, that is, small of small, small of medium, small of large, medium of small, medium of medium, medium of large, large of small, large of medium, large of large. Just as with the antidote side, so also with the disagreement side, one should know. Among them, the small of the small path is from abandoning the great of the great discriminations, up to the great of the great abandoning the small of the small. Because it is impossible to have a great path only at the beginning, or it is impossible for the great path to be only the great path, or it is impossible to have great afflictions when the great path arises. For example, first removing the great stains of clothing, and later purifying the subtle ones, and the great darkness is dispelled by small light, and the small is dispelled by the great, this metaphor is appropriate here. White Dharma is powerful and black is weak, so even a small moment of the noble path, from the absence of samsara, is transmitted from one to another, so it can uproot the firm great afflictions from the root. Master Vasubandhu also said, with a cuckoo
