The wise one said that among the various people, there are those who are born into the royal caste like a great sala tree, or the Brahmin caste like a great sala tree, or the householder caste like a great sala tree. This is because they have abandoned three and four types of afflictions, have attained the antidote to them, the uncontaminated faculties, and have two or three rebirths remaining, so they are more excellent than those who have entered the stream. The second is, Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who have attained meditative states and so on, are skilled in means, and are born among the beings of the Four Great Kings up to the beings of the Paranirmitavasavartins, and even there they please the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. The once-returner is the same as the one-intervener. Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who have attained the four meditative states up to the four noble truths, but they do not realize them, these should be understood as being obstructed by only one lifetime. This is because they have abandoned seven and eight types of afflictions, have attained the antidote to them, the uncontaminated faculties, and have one rebirth remaining, so they are more excellent than the once-returner, therefore they are one-interveners. Because they have abandoned nine types of afflictions, the explanation of the non-returner stage should be understood as five types. For example, those who completely pass into nirvana in the intermediate state are, Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who have attained meditative states and so on, are skilled in means, and are born among the Brahma beings up to the Akanistha beings, and so on. This is because any of the heavenly realms from Brahma up to Akanistha, they attain enlightenment there and show enlightenment here, and so on. Those who completely pass into nirvana after being born are, Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who, from the very first moment of generating the mind, attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, and even after those completely pass into nirvana, the sacred Dharma remains for a kalpa or more than a kalpa, and exists, and so on.

is diligence. Because that is entering the path through diligence. Liberation from sorrow through fabrication is: Shariputra, bodhisattvas practicing the six perfections, going from world to world, those who are constantly diligent for the benefit of sentient beings, from there to countless immeasurable kalpas, the bodhisattvas who attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment exist. This is what is said, because that is entering the path through diligence. Complete liberation from sorrow without fabrication is: Shariputra, those bodhisattvas who, from the very first moment of generating the mind of enlightenment, transcend the flawless state of a bodhisattva, from there to other Buddha-fields, the bodhisattvas who attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment exist. This is what is said, because that is entering the path without fabrication. Moving upwards is the fifth, who goes upwards? Where one is born, one does not completely liberate from sorrow there. The meaning of moving is going. That also has two types, reaching the ultimate of Akanishta and reaching the ultimate of the peak of existence. Reaching the ultimate of Akanishta is: Shariputra, bodhisattvas practicing the six perfections, becoming wheel-turning kings, preparing all the implements of happiness for sentient beings, giving food to those who desire food, from there, establishing sentient beings in the path of the ten virtuous actions, being born from the Brahma host gods to Akanishta, in various Buddha-fields, the bodhisattvas who attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment exist. This is what is said. The upward movement of reaching the ultimate of Akanishta has three changes: leaping, half-leaping, and dying and transferring in all places. Leaping refers to someone who has completely fallen from the third dhyana, cultivating the first dhyana and being born in the Brahma host, due to the power of previous habituation,

The fourth is continuity, which means dying from this place and being born into the gods of Akanistha. This is called jumping because it does not abandon the intermediate places. As it is said: Shariputra, if a great Bodhisattva perfects the four dhyanas, and completely falls away from dhyana, then cultivates the first dhyana and is born into the gods of the Brahma host, and those gods again cultivate dhyana and are born into the gods of Akanistha, those who attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in various Buddha-fields exist. The so-called halfway jumping refers to dying from the Brahma host and being born into the Pure Abodes, surpassing one other intermediate place, being born into Akanistha, and so on, in various Buddha-fields. The so-called dying and being born in all places refers to entering Akanistha after passing through all other places. As it is said: Shariputra, if a great Bodhisattva cultivates the abode of Tushita, and is born from the Brahma host to Akanistha, then with skillful means teaches the Dharma to the beings of hell and the beings of animals, as well as the beings of the world of Yama, those beings go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field in the ten directions, attend to and honor the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, completely ripen beings, and also completely accomplish the unsurpassed Buddha-fields, and so on. Reaching the limit of the peak of existence refers to cultivating other distinctions of samadhi, and after being born in all other places, only not entering the Pure Abodes, but gradually being born into the formless realm, reaching the peak of existence, those who attain enlightenment in various Buddha-fields. As it is said: Shariputra, if a great Bodhisattva cultivates dhyana and the samadhi of the formless realm, those beings will be born into the gods from the Brahma host to Sudarshana, and from there will be born into the sphere of infinite space up to the peak of existence, and then in various Buddha-fields.
