Now it is for the sake of the teachings. Because of clearly detesting, it is the one who clearly dedicates, this is to show the decay of skin desire due to attachment to the color of the body. Dogs and jackals, etc., devour each other in various ways, so it is the one who devours in various ways, this is to show the decay of flesh due to attachment to the flesh of breasts, etc. Two hands are also elsewhere, two feet are also elsewhere, the head is also elsewhere, because of various scatterings, so it is the one who scatters in various ways, this is to show the scattering of limbs and branches due to attachment to the charm of limbs and branches. The bone itself is the bone, this is a euphemism for bone connection and one bone, this is to show the discordant substance of the body's bones due to attachment to the wealth of bones such as teeth. Clearly decaying and burning, is the one who clearly burns, this is to show the complete shrinking of the skin and shape due to attachment to color and shape, therefore this should be practiced. The eight discriminations of the great man should be practiced, like this: this Dharma is for those who have few desires, not for those who have great desires; it is for those who are content, those who are completely secluded, those who are diligent, those who are mindful, those who are in meditation, those who have wisdom, not for those who have shallow wisdom. By means of these seven discriminations of the great man, the great son of Maudgalyayana was able to abide. The Blessed One also said to the great son of Maudgalyayana: Great son, you should also discriminate these eight discriminations of the great man. This Dharma is without elaboration, rejoices in without elaboration, is to diligently strive in the yoga of rejoicing in without elaboration, so it is said. Therefore, because of few desires, four dharmas are abandoned, namely: pretense, flattery, partiality, measuring by gain. Among them, the so-called pretense, refers to some people who seek gain for the sake of profit, desiring to obtain profit, respect and reverence, associated with dependent and attached minds, living in a quiet place, or in a garbage heap, or cultivating merit from a single seat.

If one dwells relying on any other thing, that person will think: How wonderful it would be if others would respect me, honor me, make offerings to me, and serve me! How wonderful it would be if I could also obtain gain, respect, and fame! Thinking in this way, striving for gain and respect, craving gain and so on, acting in that kind of nature, this is called hypocrisy. Flattery means that some people, because they are greedy for gain and respect, say to others: You are just like my mother, like my father, like my brother, like any relative, like tomorrow's relatives. Please also give to me, and we will also give to you. Please do this, and we will also do it for you. I have come to you from a distant place, and my dwelling here is also for your sake. Saying this, they will be cherished. Striving for gain, craving gain and so on, with expectations in mind, flattering others in that way, universally speaking, completely speaking, striving, verbally pleasing, doing flattering things, this is called flattery. Deceit means that some people separately observe, relying on gain, and work for things and their causes. For example, saying: Your bowl is beautiful! Or the Dharma robe, cushion, mattress, crooked key, or saying: This and this of your utensils are good! If I could get something like this, how wonderful it would be! It is also difficult to find a donor! Or going to any house, and there also saying: Your rice is good! The beans are good! The upper garment is good! The clothes are good! The food you prepare or eat is good! In the past, you have also given and accomplished for us, and we were happy because of your giving and accomplishing, and now

Or do you not think that you should give or accomplish for us? Like saying this. After examining those one by one, the act of persuasion arising from greed, saying that that thing is the reason for that thing, this is called persuasion. The so-called "certainly showing" means that some people, in order to obtain gain, because of the desire for gain and other desires, with a related mind, say to others: "You should not give to your mother, nor to your father, nor to your sisters, do not give to any relatives and future in-laws, who should you give to or accomplish?" And going to some people's homes, they also say: "An Arhat has entered your home, you have met the Arhat, lived together, talked together, you are truly rich in gain! You have obtained good gain! You have obtained good wealth! Obtaining a human body is also meaningful!" And those people think: "No other Shramana or Brahmin has entered our home except for this noble one, so this noble one must be an Arhat." What's wrong with thinking like that? In order to obtain gain, because of the desire for gain and other desires, with a related mind, certainly proclaiming to others in that way, this is called "certainly showing." Contentment means using gain to satisfy the desire for gain.
