Approaching minds are the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Patience. In order to fully examine it, in order to fully accomplish the meaning to be held, knowing the causes that completely harm it is understanding. Holding that meaning as close and abiding, establishing the mind without remainder, is the mind. Not abandoning that diligence is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Diligence, and entering into samadhi with the aspect of no object in those samadhis and formless absorptions is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Meditation, and individually contemplating the limbs of that first dhyana and so forth with the aspects of impermanence, suffering, selflessness, peace, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Wisdom, as it is said. Entering the Noble Path is the Great Vehicle of the Great Bodhisattva, which is said to be the practice of the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment in all ways, and so forth. "In all ways" means that which is encompassed by the three kinds of omniscience, which is done in terms of practice. Entering the Four Immeasurables, again, enduring with all-knowingness in the practice of the Four Immeasurables is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Patience, not mixing with the mind of the inferior vehicle is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Diligence, tasting the flavor of meditation is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Wisdom, entering into samadhi in the Four Immeasurables is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Meditation, causing the exhaustion of defilements to increase in sentient beings is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Generosity, entering into samadhi in the Four Immeasurables is the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Meditation, and it is said to be the Great Vehicle of the Perfection of Morality. This distinction in the order of the perfections is spoken of in terms of the individual who abides in the Four Immeasurables.

It should be done this way, because that is the reason for existence. Furthermore, the immeasurables are fourfold, namely: loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. As it is extensively taught in the scriptures, "The mind endowed with loving-kindness," and so forth. Each of these has three aspects: focusing on sentient beings, focusing on phenomena, and being without focus. Among these, focusing on sentient beings is established through four causes: the very act of drawing near to accomplishment, being the antidote to opposing factors, being utterly pure, and the very act of completely holding the fruit. How is it through drawing near to accomplishment? Because it draws near to accomplishing three kinds of happiness. The so-called "mind endowed with loving-kindness" refers to being close to establishing benefit and happiness. The so-called "expansive" is because it draws near to accomplishing happiness in the desire realm. The so-called "becoming vast" refers to the meaning of the first and second dhyana grounds, which are accompanied by joy, because these two have joy. The so-called "non-dual" is a synonym for the third dhyana ground, which is without joy, because it is devoid of suffering and joy. Therefore, it is "non-dual." The so-called "immeasurable" is because the fruit is immeasurable, like the confluence of the waters of the four great rivers. It should be known that it itself is immeasurable, because it possesses happiness and so forth, as previously stated. Therefore, drawing near to accomplishment. How is it from the antidote to opposing factors? It is the so-called "unharmed," because it is the antidote to the harmers who draw near to accomplishing the undesirable and draw near to accomplishing the desirable. How is it pure? It is the so-called "unobstructed," because there is no rival, and it pacifies the obscurations of sleep, drowsiness, agitation, and regret in due order, and it is a well-placed equipoise. How is it through the complete holding of the fruit? It is the so-called "harmless," because it completely holds the ripening fruit and the fruit in accordance with the cause of the form and desire realms, as appropriate, which is harmless. Thus, for the time being, with respect to focusing on sentient beings, it is through four causes that it is
