That which has no action whatsoever is the unconditioned. Whatever is unconditioned is the lineage of the noble ones. That lineage is indistinguishable by being equal to space. That lineage is the suchness of Dharma at all times, and is constant by being of one taste of Dharma, and so on. The definitive word is that lineage is so called because it saves through qualities, meaning that those qualities arise and occur from it. Therefore, all noble beings are distinguished by the unconditioned, it is said. Others say that "earth" is land, and land is also a place, and because they dwell together, the word "earth" is closely applied to living beings. Therefore, those gathered by the earth are protected, so it is a lineage. Or, because the directions are all "earth," living beings dwelling in the directions are called "earth," so whatever protects is a lineage, they say. If one asks why the generation of bodhicitta, liberation, and those in accordance with the definitive aspect are not to be taught as lineage only at the beginning, since they are what precedes it, that is the order of meaning, and this, where the cause is realized by the effect, is the order of realization. Thus, those in accordance with the definitive aspect of lineage are seen as mistaken. As it is said: Those with characteristics say, "Turning back from the lineage of the two learners, the other three will also become Buddhas." This has been explained. The basis of practice has been explained. Explanation of the Object of Practice Because the object of practice is to be explained, it is said: The object is all dharmas. This has been said. What are they? They are virtues and so on. This has been said, and by mentioning "and so on," non-virtues and the unspecified are included. Are those all there are? There are also the conceptions of worldly beings, and those who desire to transcend the world, dharmas with and without outflows, and those that are conditioned and unconditioned, dharmas common to disciples, and those not common to the capable one. This has been said. Among them, virtuous dharmas are these: holding to "I," holding to "other," and holding to virtuous conduct.

etc., what was extensively said, because the ascetic himself is regarded as an ascetic. Non-virtuous dharmas are the ten paths of non-virtuous actions, such as killing and not giving, etc., what was said, because killing, etc., are only non-virtuous. Unspecified dharmas are the actions of body, speech, and mind that are unspecified, etc., what was said, because it must be understood that it is only unspecified, otherwise the actions of body, etc., will not become virtuous or non-virtuous. Worldly dharmas are the five aggregates, the twelve sources, the eighteen elements, the ten virtuous paths of action, meditation, the immeasurable ones, and the formless absorptions, etc., what was said, because these are only worldly. Transcendental dharmas are from the four meditations onwards, up to the Buddha's eighteen unshared dharmas, what was extensively said, because they are included in the noble path, so they are only transcendental. Defiled dharmas are the five aggregates of grasping, etc., up to the four formless absorptions and the six superknowledges, etc., what was said, because these are not the antidote to the view of self, so they are only defiled dharmas. Undefiled dharmas are the four mindfulnesses, etc., up to the Buddha's eighteen unshared dharmas, etc., what was said, because these are the antidote to the view of self, so they are only undefiled dharmas. Conditioned dharmas are the desire realm, the form realm, the formless realm, and the dharmas that do not belong to the three realms, and the aspects of enlightenment, etc., what was said, because these are made by the gathering and assembly of conditions, so they are only conditioned. Unconditioned dharmas are those that have no birth and no destruction, and do not manifest any other change from abiding, such as the exhaustion of desire, etc., what was said
