Just as disagreement is clinging to manifestation, just as antidote is not clinging to manifestation. Furthermore, how is it disagreement? Just as clinging to existence and non-existence, which are universally aroused by untrue discriminations. How is it an antidote? Just as those do not exist. Furthermore, how is it that those do not exist? Just as it will be explained immediately thereafter: Shariputra, if in that which is without mind, there is no existence, no non-existence, or it is imperceptible, then what is the mind of the mindless, does it exist? Is such a refutation reasonable? This is also stated with regard to particularly not abiding and universally not knowing. Having made the truths of cessation and the path the basis, and having spoken with regard to the distinctions of the object and aspect that have become warm, cessation should be manifested in this way. By this, cessation is manifested. The path should be cultivated in this way. Thus, there is no clinging to manifestation, and so forth. Among these, by "in this way" it is said that the four aspects of each of the four truths are spoken. By "by this" it is said that the aspects of enlightenment that have become its collection are spoken. Here, cessation and the path are said to be the gate of liberation, without characteristics. There are three types of characteristics: the characteristic of clinging to manifestation, which is to be relied upon and not to be relied upon with regard to all afflicted and purified dharmas; the characteristic of particularly abiding in the basis of learning and non-learning with regard to what should be practiced and what should not be practiced; and the characteristic of all knowledge of skillful means and unskillful means with regard to generosity and so forth, the perfections, and those that are not perfections, and so forth. The meaning of what is taught to show the absence of characteristics, which is the opposite of these, is: This is affliction, this is purification, these dharmas should be relied upon, these dharmas should not be relied upon, up to this is skillful means, this is not skillful means. Thus, clinging to manifestation, particularly abiding, and all knowledge, this is craving for the Dharma that accords with the great bodhisattva, it is a fault.
