From "those who are constantly imprisoned for the benefit of sentient beings," up to "those who attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment in countless immeasurable eons," that is spoken for the sake of entering the path through diligence. To be completely liberated from suffering without effort is: Shariputra! Which Bodhisattvas, from the very moment of first generating the mind, transcend the faultless state of a Bodhisattva, up to "those who attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment in other different Buddha-fields," that is spoken for the sake of entering the path without effort. Ascending rebirth is the fifth type: whoever goes upwards, wherever they are born, they do not completely liberate from suffering in that place. Rebirth is said to mean going. It also has two types: reaching the ultimate end of Akanishta and reaching the ultimate end of the Peak of Existence. Reaching the ultimate end of Akanishta is: Shariputra! Which Bodhisattvas practice the six perfections, become universal monarchs, prepare all the means of happiness for sentient beings, and give food to those who desire food until they are satisfied. Having established sentient beings on the path of the ten virtuous actions, they are born from the Brahma host gods up to Akanishta, and in various different Buddha-fields, they attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. This is what is spoken. The ascending rebirth that goes to the ultimate end of Akanishta has three variations: leaping, half-leaping, and dying and transmigrating in all places. Leaping refers to those who have completely fallen from the third dhyana, they cultivate the first dhyana, are born in the Brahma host, and due to past habits, they combine with the fourth dhyana, and from there, they die and transmigrate to the gods of Akanishta. Because the intermediate state is not abandoned, it is called leaping. As it is said: Shariputra! Which great Bodhisattvas have perfected the fourth dhyana, completely from dhyana

Having declined, they cultivate the first dhyana and are born among the gods of the Brahma host. Those gods also cultivate dhyana and are born among the gods of Akanistha, and in various Buddha-fields they manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. This is what was said. "Half-transcending" means that those who die and transmigrate from the Brahma host and are born in the Pure Abodes, surpassing even one intermediate abode, are born in Akanistha, and in various Buddha-fields, and so forth. This is what was said. "Dying and transmigrating in all abodes" means that one passes through all other abodes and enters Akanistha. As it is said: "Shariputra, great bodhisattvas who have trained in the abode of Tushita, having been born from the Brahma host to Akanistha, through skillful means teach the Dharma to beings in hells and animal rebirths, and to beings in the realm of Yama. They go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field in the ten directions, attend to and honor the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and completely ripen beings, and also completely accomplish unsurpassed Buddha-fields." And so forth. This is what was said. Going to the ultimate peak of existence means accomplishing other distinctions of meditative absorption, and having been born in all other abodes, without entering the Pure Abodes, one gradually arises in the formless realms, reaching the peak of existence, and manifestly awakens to enlightenment in various Buddha-fields. As it is said: "Shariputra, great bodhisattvas who cultivate dhyana and formless absorptions will be born among the gods from the Brahma host to Suddhavasa, and from there they will be born from the sphere of infinite space to the peak of existence. From there, to various Buddha-fields." This is what was said. That which is irreversible because of being free from desire for form is that which, having died from here, will be born in the formless realms. As it is said: "Shariputra, great bodhisattvas who cultivate dhyana and formless absorptions

Those who attain entry (into samadhi) will be born from the Realm of Infinite Space up to the Peak of Existence. Then, it is said, there are "various Buddha-fields," and so on. Thus, there are six types of non-retrogression. The seventh is attaining nirvana in the present life, as it is said in the sutra: Shariputra, if great Bodhisattvas are adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great man on their bodies, and their faculties are completely pure, possessing unsurpassed (qualities), then they will never be born into evil destinies or evil realms, and will not regress; they will not praise themselves, nor will they slander others. They are loving and pleasing to many beings. Any sentient beings who see those Bodhisattvas, merely with great joy in their hearts, will gradually attain complete nirvana through the three vehicles. Those Bodhisattvas possess immeasurable life and fully hold hundreds of thousands of Chakravartin kingdoms, and while dwelling in them, they make offerings to countless billions of Buddhas, regard them as teachers, make offerings to them, and treat them as lords, and then in the future, in this very place, they will manifest and awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. This is what is said in the sutra. Those who do not regress in order to attain the cessation samadhi are said to manifest with the body because they manifest with a Dharma body similar to nirvana. So, how do they manifest with the body? Because (they) are without mind, they rely on the body to generate it. As it is said in the sutra: Shariputra, if great Bodhisattvas practice the Perfection of Wisdom, and frolic with dhyana, immeasurables, and formless samadhis, they first enter the first dhyana, then rise from the first dhyana and enter the cessation samadhi, then rise from the cessation samadhi and enter the second dhyana. Starting from (the second dhyana), it is spoken of extensively. Shariputra, thus great Bodhisattvas practice the Perfection of Wisdom, and with skillful means, enter the Transcendent Samadhi, and then in various Buddha-fields...
