What is meant by "this" is that it has abandoned the three and four types of afflictions, and has obtained its antidote—the unpolluted faculty, because it is more excellent than the stream-enterer who needs two or three more births to attain the result. The second refers to: Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who have attained meditation and so on, who are skilled in means, who are born from the realm of the Four Great Kings up to the remaining beings of Others' Emanated Control, etc., up to what is said between "there also pleasing the Buddhas and Bhagavat." What is meant by "once-returner" is one interruption, namely: Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who have attained from the four dhyanas to the four noble truths, but do not manifest them. Know that those people are obstructed by one lifetime. This is because it has abandoned the seven and eight types of afflictions, and has obtained its antidote—the unpolluted faculty, because only one birth remains, so it is more excellent than the once-returner, therefore it is one interruption. Because it has abandoned the nine types of afflictions, the explanation of the non-returner stage should be understood as five types. For example: completely entering nirvana in the intermediate state, namely: Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who have attained meditation and so on, who are skilled in means, who will be born from the gods of the Brahma realm up to the gods of Akanistha, etc., this is because from the Brahma realm onwards, manifesting Buddhahood in any of the heavenly realms up to Akanistha, and showing manifestation of Bodhi etc. here. Completely entering nirvana after birth refers to: Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who, at the very beginning of generating the mind of enlightenment, have already attained the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, etc., up to what is said between "after those completely enter nirvana, the true Dharma remains for a kalpa or more than a kalpa," this is because it is entering the path through manifest diligence. Entering nirvana through manifest accumulation refers to: Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who practice the six perfections,

Moving from the realm of the world to the realm of the world, and they are constantly imprisoned for the benefit of sentient beings, from there to those who attain perfect enlightenment in countless immeasurable kalpas. This is in order to enter the path with present diligence. To be completely liberated from suffering by not being present is: Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who, at the very moment of first generating the mind, transcend the Bodhisattva's faultlessness, from there to those who manifest perfect enlightenment in other Buddha lands. This is in order to enter the path without being present. Upward transfer is the fifth, who goes upward? Where one is born, one is not completely liberated from suffering, and transfer means the meaning of going. There are also two types, namely reaching the end of Akanistha and reaching the end of the peak of existence. There, reaching the end of Akanistha is: Shariputra, those Bodhisattvas who practice the six perfections, having become Chakravartin kings, prepare all the means of happiness for sentient beings, and satisfy those who desire food, from there to placing sentient beings on the path of the ten virtuous actions, being born from the Brahma host gods to Akanistha, and manifesting perfect enlightenment in various Buddha lands. This is what is said. The upward movement to the end of Akanistha has three variations: jumping, half-jumping, and dying and transferring in all places. There, jumping refers to someone who has completely fallen from the third dhyana, cultivates the first dhyana and is born in the Brahma host, mixes with the fourth dhyana due to previous habits, and after dying and transferring from there, is born among the gods of Akanistha, because that has not been abandoned in the middle, it is called jumping. As it is said: Shariputra, those great Bodhisattvas

Having perfected the four dhyanas, and having completely fallen away from dhyana, cultivating the first dhyana and being born in the Brahma host, those gods also cultivate dhyana and are born in Akanistha, and in various Buddha-fields, those who manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment exist, this is what was said. The so-called "half-leap" refers to those who, having died and transmigrated from the Brahma host, are born in the pure abodes, and having crossed over even one intermediate abode, are born in Akanistha, and in various Buddha-fields, etc., this is what was said. The so-called "dying and transmigrating in all places" refers to someone who, having passed through all other abodes, enters Akanistha. As it is said: Shariputra, great Bodhisattvas who have trained in the abode of Tushita, having been born from the Brahma host to Akanistha, through skillful means teach the Dharma to beings in hell and the animal realm, and to beings in the realm of Yama, they go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field in the ten directions, attend to and honor the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, completely ripen sentient beings, and also completely accomplish unsurpassed Buddha-fields, etc., this is what was said. Going to the ultimate end of existence means cultivating other distinctions of samadhi, and having been born in all other abodes, but not entering the pure abodes, gradually being born in the formless realms, thus having gone to the peak of existence, and those who manifestly awaken to enlightenment in various Buddha-fields. As it is said: Shariputra, great Bodhisattvas who cultivate dhyana and formless samadhi, they will be born among the gods from the Brahma host to Suddhashana, and from there they will be born from the sphere of infinite space to the peak of existence, and from there in various Buddha-fields, etc., this is what was said. Those who are non-returning because they are free from desire for form are those who, having died and transmigrated from here, will be born in the formless realms. As it is said: Shariputra, great Bodhisattva
