It is so. Skillful means have been explained. A virtuous friend who completely holds is one who shows that from the aggregates and so on up to the unmixed dharmas, none are seen as impermanent and so on, and who causes the roots of virtue to be completely dedicated to the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. This is a virtuous friend. Furthermore, in order to be separated from the perfections, one speaks of songs and chants made by singers, and having come in the guise of a Buddha, one says, "What is the use of you practicing the Perfection of Wisdom?" and so on, which is one's own activity. Furthermore, sutras that are associated with Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and saying things like, "You have not even a little bit of the mind of enlightenment," and so on, are deceptive displays. Furthermore, from the sense organs such as the eye up to the unmixed dharmas of the Buddha, if one says, "If self and what belongs to self are empty, then what is the use of manifestly, completely awakening to unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment?" Likewise, one should also speak to those who come in the guise of Solitary Buddhas, Hearers, Preceptors, Teachers, Brahmacharis, and so on. Thus, to those who deceptively display the Dharma of Mara, if one does not tell the Bodhisattva, "This is the activity of Mara," one should know that this is an evil friend and should be avoided. In order to show the distinction of a virtuous friend, the characteristics of a non-virtuous friend are taught. The intermediate verses on complete holding are: The mind does not turn back, and so on; without self-nature, and so on; do. Abandoning its discordant aspects, all aspects are completely held. Thus it is taught. Those that are in accordance with the definite distinction, the distinction is the various distinctions, and the non-distinction distinction is the definite distinction, which is the path of seeing that is the antidote to the four kinds of grasping and apprehending. Its part, that is, because it benefits by producing one part, so being in accordance is being in accordance with the part of definite distinction. definite

The aspects corresponding to the Part of Discrimination have been explained. Explanation of the Basis for Accomplishment: When explaining the basis for accomplishment, it refers to the meaning of "lineage." It transforms into thirteen forms due to the differences in the stages of the Dharma of accomplishment. How does it transform? It is said, "There are six Dharmas of realization." What are these? It will eventually be explained that the basis is called lineage. For example, the four roots of virtue corresponding to the Part of Discrimination, as well as the Paths of Seeing and Cultivation. Because from the generation of Bodhicitta onwards, the roots of virtue corresponding to the Part of Discrimination, as well as the Paths of Seeing and Cultivation, are called Bodhisattvas. World-Honored One, what is the meaning of the word Bodhisattva? (In the sutra) it is asked, and (the Buddha) answers: What is the basis of that Dharma of realization? As (the sutra) says: Subhuti, the meaning of the word Bodhisattva is the absence of a meaning of the word. Why? Because Bodhi is neither arising, nor existing, nor an object. This is (the meaning of the sutra). This shows that since the basis Bodhi is not substantial, the lineage of the characteristic of the nature of the six sense bases is the reason for the use of the word Bodhisattva, but it is not the meaning of a thing-like word. Among them, the basis of the Warmth stage is: Subhuti, for example, just as there are no traces of birds in the sky, as well as the metaphors of dreams, illusions, mirages, echoes, cataracts, reflections, Gandharva cities, and emanations having no place and no object. The meaning expressed by these nine metaphors is: It should correspond to the differences expressed in nine ways of the first conceptual thought of grasping, which is fully equipped with the first root of virtue corresponding to the Part of Discrimination. In order to avoid complexity, we have not elaborated. Similarly, for the other roots of virtue corresponding to the Part of Discrimination, the Paths of Seeing and Cultivation, one should also, as before, explain the differences in conceptual thoughts and the meanings of metaphors, and follow their manner. The basis of the Peak stage is Suchness and Thatness.
