We call it "cessation," and in this way it becomes eightfold. Among them, exhaustion, complete severance, and complete enjoyment, because these are without limit, therefore they are limitless. Space is without limit is infinite space, and infinite space itself is what has become infinite space. This is because of the name of space, and in terms of the meaning of the support, because this meditation has the place that has become infinite space, it is the place of infinite space, just like the abode of the gods of the gods, the abode is the dwelling place. Complete severance and complete enjoyment, because these are without limit, therefore they are limitless. Consciousness is without limit is infinite consciousness, and infinite consciousness itself is what has become infinite consciousness. This is the name of the consciousness that enters space, and just like before, because this meditation has the place that has become infinite consciousness, it is the place of infinite consciousness. Because there is no remainder of limbs or slight residue here, it is nothing at all, and its object is what has become nothing at all. This is the name of the consciousness that is separated from the place of infinite space, and just like before, because this meditation has the place where there is nothing at all, it is the place of nothing at all. Because there is no coarse perception and there is subtle perception, the meditation that is similar to neither having perception nor not having perception is neither having perception nor not having perception. That is also neither having perception, and that is also neither not having perception. It is a place that has become a category of mind-place and dharma-place, but it is not another place, therefore it is the place of neither having perception nor not having perception. In all of these, only the complete transcendence is obtained from the object, not the transcendence of the limbs. For example, just like the first dhyana and so on, when exhausted, for one object such as earth, without abandoning the object, the complete transcendence is obtained from the limbs such as investigation, these are not like that. For these, because they have transcended the sign of form, it is the first. Transcending space is the second. Transcending the consciousness that enters space is the third.

The cessation of not abiding in the sphere of infinite consciousness is the fourth (liberation). Therefore, in all these, liberation is attained only by completely transcending the object of focus. Liberation is not attained from the limbs, but by virtue of equanimity and one-pointedness of mind, all these possess two limbs. Just as the four cloths of equal width woven from coarse, fine, extremely fine, and exceedingly fine threads, although there is no difference in size, the latter is far superior to the former due to the comfortable touch, the nature of being thin, and the high value. Similarly, although these do not have differences in limbs, they have transformed into the nature of being subtle and peaceful. Therefore, it should be recognized that the latter is more excellent, extremely excellent, and most extremely excellent than the former. The remaining explanation of liberation is, as previously stated, the complete and thorough realization. The nine successive abidings are the four dhyanas, the four formless absorptions, and the cessation absorption. The ten kasinas are: earth, water, fire, wind, blue, yellow, red, white, these eight kasinas, as well as the kasina of consciousness and the kasina of space. Among these, the kasina of earth refers to a yogi who, having arisen from the samadhi of the first dhyana, which has become mastered through familiarity, thinks that this absorption is the antidote to the obstacles of near-abiding, and is merely gross thought, and that the power of the limbs is also weak. Having seen these faults, he thinks that the second dhyana is more peaceful. In order to attain the second dhyana without completely clinging to the first dhyana, he abides in peace with respect to the coarse thought among the limbs and with respect to investigation and so on. This is not done by making that the reason for abandoning the coarse limbs and attaining the peaceful limbs, but by repeatedly attending to "earth," this is established as the kasina of earth. Similarly, the same principle should be applied to the remaining nine, such as the kasina of water. Previously practiced
