Listening respectfully to the Guru, diligently practicing the eight, such as giving. This means that a Bodhisattva abiding on the second ground should keep in mind eight dharmas, namely, as it is said in the scriptures: complete purity of morality, gratitude and knowing what has been done, and so on. Among them, knowing what has been done is knowing who has done it. Gratitude is not considering even a small favor as insignificant or despising it. Listening respectfully to the Guru means that one wants to practice what the Guru has taught, not just wanting to hear the words. Never being satisfied with hearing, giving Dharma without attachment, purifying all Buddha-fields, not being weary of samsara, having shame and modesty, and having self-esteem, these five. This means that a great Bodhisattva abiding on the third ground should abide in five dharmas. What are the five? Namely, as it is said in the scriptures: not being satisfied with hearing much, and not being attached to letters, and so on. Dwelling in the forest, having few desires and being content, correctly teaching the learned precepts, not abandoning what has been learned, rebuking desires, abandoning Nirvana and all possessions, not being timid and having no wrong views. This means that a great Bodhisattva abiding on the fourth ground should not abandon these ten dharmas. What are the ten? Namely, as it is said in the scriptures: dwelling in a solitary place, having few desires, and so on. Among them, having few desires means not wanting to gain profit and honor. Being content means not wanting to get more than what one has already obtained. The definitive indication of the characteristic is: a great Bodhisattva does not even generate desire for Bodhi, this is called having few desires. The intention here is to focus on one's own benefit, because it is a branch of benefiting others more, so it should be embraced. Closeness and attachment to family, and places that become noisy, praising oneself and disparaging others, and the ten paths of unwholesome actions, arrogance and conceit, and perversion, indecision and tolerance of afflictions. If these ten are completely abandoned, then the ground

The fifth is to truly attain. It is said that the great Bodhisattva, abiding in the fifth ground, should abandon ten things, such as completely abandoning householders, renunciates, and those who rely on them, as it is said. Giving, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom are perfectly fulfilled. Abandoning the mind of joy and fear towards disciples and solitary realizers, not being afraid to beg for anything, not being unhappy even when giving away all possessions, and not abandoning begging even when poor, one truly attains the sixth ground. It is said that the great Bodhisattva, abiding in the sixth ground, should perfect six things, namely the six perfections. Furthermore, six things should be completely abandoned. What are the six? The mind of the Hearer should be completely abandoned, as it is said. Grasping at self and sentient beings, life and person, annihilation and permanence, signs and causes, aggregates, elements, and sense bases, dwelling and attachment in the three realms, a mind that is always timid, attachment to the three jewels and discipline, manifest attachment to seeing them, diligence in emptiness, and faults contrary to it, whoever completely cuts off these twenty, attains the seventh ground. It is said that the great Bodhisattva, abiding in the seventh ground, does not produce twenty things. What are the twenty? They are grasping at self, grasping at sentient beings, grasping at life, and so on, as it is said. Knowing the three doors of liberation, the purity of the three circles, compassion and lack of pride, the equality of dharmas and knowing one aspect, non-arising and knowing patience, showing all dharmas as one aspect, completely destroying all discriminations, abandoning perceptions, views, and afflictions, definitely thinking of calm abiding, being skilled in higher seeing, having a tamed mind, and unobstructed wisdom in everything, going together to other fields wherever one desires, not being a place of attachment, showing the nature of complete self, these are twenty. It is said that the great Bodhisattva, abiding in the seventh ground, perfects these twenty dharmas. What are the twenty? They are the perfection of emptiness.
