The mind that does not dwell together with the nine desires, in accordance with and not in accordance with the rules, in one, two, three, four, five, seven, eight, and nine, manifests the transcendence of the sequential samadhi, and it is said that one obtains many powers as desired. This sutra is: Subhuti, here a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, wishing to be secluded from desires, secluded from unwholesome dharmas, with initial and sustained thought, dwells having attained the first dhyana, which is born of seclusion and has joy and pleasure. Likewise, he dwells having cultivated up to the samadhi of cessation of consciousness and feeling. Having arisen from that samadhi of cessation, he enters into the samadhi of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Having arisen from that, he enters into the samadhi of the sphere of nothingness. Then, into the samadhi of the sphere of infinite consciousness. Then, into the samadhi of the sphere of infinite space. Then, into the fourth dhyana. Then, into the third. Then, into the second. Then, he enters into the first dhyana. Having abandoned that lion-like unfolding samadhi, he enters into the samadhi of transcendence. Subhuti, what is the samadhi of transcendence of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva? Here, a Bodhisattva enters into the first dhyana, and likewise enters into cessation. Having arisen from that, he cultivates and dwells in the first dhyana. Then, in cessation. Then, in the second dhyana. Then, in cessation. Then, in the third. Then, in cessation. Then, in the fourth dhyana. Then, in cessation. Then, in the sphere of infinite space. Then, in cessation. Then, in the sphere of infinite consciousness. Then, in cessation. Then, in the sphere of nothingness. Then, in cessation. Then, in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Having arisen from that, he enters into the samadhi of cessation. Having arisen from that, he enters into the samadhi of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception.

What? Having arisen from that, one makes the mind in equipoise that engages in desire. Entering into cessation from the mind in equipoise is called entering into equipoise. Having arisen from that, one abides in the mind that is not in equipoise. After that, one enters into the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Having arisen from that, one abides in the mind that is not in equipoise. After that, into the realm of nothing whatsoever. After that, one abides in the mind that is not in equipoise. Likewise, up to arising from the first dhyana and abiding in the mind that is not in equipoise. Furthermore, the eight grounds are connected in two ways, one surpasses, goes, and comes, and in a different category, it goes to the third. This is the entering into equipoise of sudden transcendence. How is that which is said? Is it that the characteristics of a crow and milk porridge are the same? This situation is different, because by obtaining skill in such means, one enters into countless eons, serving countless hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhas, which is the cause for showing it to be vast. Moreover, the meaning of what is said is to want to know that the path of meditation is constant and uninterrupted. The path of meditation has been explained. Now, the four discriminations that are in accordance with it will be spoken. Among them, briefly, extensively, and by the Buddha, not completely grasped by the teachings, without qualities in the three times, there are three excellent paths, this is one discrimination to be grasped, having the object of activity of the aspect of combination. Thus, it is the discrimination of not knowing the brief collection of all phenomena, and the discrimination of not knowing its extensive explanation. The Blessed One, the Thus-Gone One, has taught these dharmas in brief and in detail. Bodhisattvas, great beings, and so forth, the six perfections, these are understood in brief and in detail. Starting from that, even the three aspects of omniscience are also gathered and taught from the beginning of realization, and the dharmas that are taught separately from the gate of each realization. Thus, gathered from the realization of the peak, and the establishment of the paths of each, by this, one should know the meaning of abandoning the discriminations that are to be abandoned.
