These are the practices, etc. It is also said thus: "Before the application, compassion and, faith and also patience and, virtuous and proper conduct, are definitely explained as signs of lineage." Thus it is declared. Or, because they have not received the unsurpassed empowerment, whoever of the Buddha's lineage has received the unsurpassed empowerment, all the Tathagatas unanimously prophesy that they are Buddhas, therefore they should be regarded as Buddhas. Therefore, because those of the Buddha's lineage have generated the mind of enlightenment and have received the unsurpassed empowerment, one should only worship and prostrate to the lama as if he were a Buddha. Whatever, whatever, etc., speaks of the joy of offering, whatever, whatever the mind is slightly pleased with, whatever, whatever the two are repetitions, things and, wealth and grains, etc., whatever and whatever is closely combined and spoken of. Mind-pleasing is especially pleasing, meaning that the lama himself is pleased with all appearances. A little is not obvious. The very excellent nature is the most important. This and that are the things themselves. The self is the meaning of the word only. The phrase "to the lama" should be understood as offering to the acharya. What is desired? That itself is desired without end. Thus it is said, that itself is what the mind likes or, the most excellent. How is it thought of? It is said to be inexhaustible, inexhaustible is immeasurable. Desire is manifest seeking, the disciple is the remainder. Whatever things and whatever is offered to the lama, that and that will not be exhausted in this and the next life, this is what is explained. Giving that, etc., explains the reason for inexhaustibility, giving is what was said just now, that is to the unsurpassed ones, etc. All Buddhas are shown to be giving to all the Tathagatas. Always is forever. If the lama is also other, and all the Buddhas are also other, then how does offering to the lama become offering to all the Buddhas? Because the lama and the Buddhas are inseparable, although they are inseparable themselves, they are spoken of in different aspects, so we...

One should not even say "ra." What is the need for giving? It is said, "That giving," and so on. Is that giving giving to that lama? Or, is it giving that which pleases his heart and is an extremely special offering. From that, in order to nourish and purify what is called "accumulation of merit," and to obtain fullness again and again, therefore it is merit, that is, virtues. Because it is accumulated and enlightened, it is accumulation, that is, the accumulation of merit. It is especially said to "transform." From the accumulation, it is from the accumulation of merit and wisdom. What is called "accomplishment" is to obtain the meaning of manifest desire, and that accomplishment is also of two kinds, inferior and supreme. Here, in order to distinguish, it is said to be supreme, the supreme is the lord of all, the accomplishment of the great mudra and the accomplishment of perfect and complete enlightenment. Again, the greatness of the lama is spoken of by "therefore," etc. For what reason? Because giving to the lama transforms into supreme accomplishment, therefore. A disciple is a listener or a learner. What has that become like? It is said, "Compassion, giving," and so on. Compassion is love, and that is of three kinds: focused on sentient beings, focused on Dharma, and without focus. Giving is generosity, and that is of three kinds: giving of Dharma, giving of material things, and giving of loving-kindness. Discipline is being free from broken discipline, and that is of three kinds: the discipline of vows, the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, and the discipline of gathering virtuous Dharmas. Patience is peace, and that is of three kinds: patience of definitely contemplating the Dharma, patience of accepting suffering, and patience of not caring about the harm of others. Compassion and giving, discipline and patience are compassion, giving, discipline, patience. Those themselves are qualities, because they should be increased and practiced, therefore it says "because." Those possessions are having, having the qualities of compassion, giving, discipline, patience. Different itself is not one. Not is negation. The word "only" is to be grasped definitely.
