Although the earth appears in the mind, it does not actually exist. For example, just as experiencing dreams and illusions, waking up to find that the previous dream was false, so too is the subsequent dream false. Similarly, all the various phenomena of the external world do not exist independently from the mind. Like falsehood, if truly examined, the mind has no inherent nature and is also false. Now, the doctrine of illusion will be explained: Neither existent nor nonexistent, neither both existent and nonexistent, nor neither of the two. Freed from the four extremes, this is what the Madhyamikas know. That is to say, it is not existent because the combination of one and many is harmed. It is not nonexistent because there is the experience of appearance. It is not both because both have faults. It is not neither of the two because it is impossible to have no cause, and there is no third aggregate. Therefore, one wishes to realize the clear light of the wisdom that sees illusion, liberated from the four extremes. That is to say, even the Dharma of Nirvana is like an illusion, like a dream. If there is a Dharma more excellent than Nirvana, that too is like an illusion, like a dream. Therefore, to regard all phenomena and the nature of mind as non-dual like an illusion is discrimination. To destroy all phenomena as non-dual like an illusion, like a water moon or a reflection in a mirror, neither true nor false, is practice. Attachment to nihilism is a stain on practice. With illusion-like Prajnaparamita, through the five perfections and the three doors of liberation, practicing with the purity of the three spheres, benefiting sentient beings, is the view. Furthermore, because all dharmas are utterly unattainable, it is believed that illusion itself is not established. As it is said: Whether clear or unclear, no one has seen it as it is. Like the child of a barren woman, although it can be spoken of, it has no meaning. That is to say, is illusion itself clear light, or is it something other than the mind? A dharma other than the mind is not established, and if it is the mind itself, then when the mind itself is not established, illusion itself is also not established. Why is that? Because there is nothing other than the mind. Illusion is also just the knowledge of the unskilled, it is addition and slander.

For example, when an impure person looks at the sky with their eyes, due to the power of the impure eyes, they see a second moon and hair-wheels, etc. With the knowledge of being skilled in superimposition, they know that it does not exist as soon as it appears, and thus assert, "It does not exist." Similarly, like an illusion, it appears as various phenomena due to the power of karma and ignorance, which is superimposition. With the power of wisdom, it is empty as soon as it appears, and thus it is asserted to be like an illusion. Therefore, one dwells in the extremes of superimposition and negation. Furthermore, some wish to speak of the extreme of all dharmas being utterly non-abiding, and thus they say: "Various things are not permanent, nor do I accept annihilation. Both permanence and annihilation, and neither of the two, are not." Here, the wise know that all is non-abiding, the suchness of things. Therefore, such conceptual thoughts, mind is not known by mind. As long as all superimpositions exist, all of them are completely non-existent, therefore there is no superimposition on the meaning of the Middle Way. Therefore, there is no refutation or establishment. Thus it is said. Furthermore, it is also said: "Here, there is nothing to be removed, nor is there anything to be placed. Look at reality in reality, seeing reality is liberation." Therefore, it does not abide in the superimposition of existence and the negation of non-existence. The very experience of mind in various ways is dependent arising, therefore it is unborn. The unborn appears as birth, birth and the unborn are not different. Similarly, appearance, when analyzed by reason, is emptiness, and the non-establishment of emptiness, the inability to be analyzed by reason, is appearance. Appearance itself is not different from emptiness, and emptiness itself is not different from appearance. For example, a mirage appears as water, but in reality it is devoid of water, and the absence of water appears as water. The appearance of water and the absence of water are not different. Similarly, appearance itself has no inherent existence, and the absence of inherent existence is appearance. Appearance and the absence of inherent existence, emptiness itself, are not different. For example, when many pieces of wood are burned by fire, they are one in the essence of fire, and then when the wood is exhausted, the fire itself does not remain. Similarly, when various appearances are analyzed by reason into emptiness, the essence of things is not established, and emptiness itself does not remain. Similarly.
