From the time of taking the novice vows until (taking) the full ordination, (the precepts that need to be guarded are:) The first of the root precepts is not to kill; the second is not to take what is not given; the third is not to engage in impure conduct; the fourth is not to lie. The first of the branch precepts is grain wine, as well as mixed wine and intoxicants; the second of the branch precepts is singing, dancing, and playing; the third of the branch precepts is wearing ornaments and colors; the fourth is high beds; the fifth is large cushions; the sixth is afternoon food; the seventh is abandoning the holding of gold and silver, and promising again not to violate them, like this, reciting three times for each one. The previous "previous" etc. are also recited as above. Take ordination with the actual karma ritual of a monk. Here, the refuge and good words are recited three times as above, as well as the previous four root precepts, the remaining two and the uncertain two, all recite returning from abandoning the downfall, etc. The so-called "Posadha" refers to the act of restoring and purifying for a year or a month or a half month. Because faults can be compensated by correction, it is also called Posadha. For an indefinite period, such as guarding for a month or a year, it is also good to restore and purify well. Here, because of desiring the three vehicles of the lower part, recite and promise until the essence of enlightenment. When generating Bodhicitta, one should use the instructions of the lower part to indicate the essence of recognizing Bodhicitta. One should also observe the arising of faults in the sutras. Third, there are four types of learning in the Dharma: conduct, view, practice, and abandoning faults. There are four types of conduct: the conduct of a close dweller, the conduct of a layperson, the conduct of a novice, and the conduct of a monk. Among them, the conduct of a close dweller is, as stated in the "Samantabhadra's Conduct and Vows Sutra," the close dweller, at this time, the body, speech, and mind must be strict, that is, the body must bathe and prostrate, the speech must recite and chant mantras, the mind must know the faults, thereby guarding the mind of the precepts, knowing the merits, thereby remembering the deity, doing good with body and speech, and keeping the day of guarding in mind. The conduct of a layperson, as stated in the "Maitreya's Question Sutra": "A faithful layperson should abandon illegal acts and practice the ten virtues." That is, like cows and birds, one should abandon the ten types of behaviors mentioned in the "Nirvana Sutra," such as raising them. The ten virtues are, as asked by Ananda

As stated in the Vinaya Sutra, one should practice: saving lives, giving wealth in charity. Offering to the Three Jewels, as well as offering fine clothes to stupas, statues, and temples, circumambulating, prostrating, reciting, mantras, praising, repairing damages, painting statues, doing the virtuous deeds of nuns and monks, and repaying kindness to those who are deserving and kind. As a novice monk, one should refer to the actual Vinaya of a novice monk for practice. Here, from the Kārikā: In the lower part of the night, rising from bed, until dawn, recite. After washing the dirt from the face and teeth, respectfully prostrate to the Tathāgata. Therefore, the actions of body, speech, and mind, that is, not increasing the faults of the body, are four: during the day, avoiding worldly people who do not have faith, not sleeping outside at night, walking with mindfulness of the teachings, walking like a bride, and not being careless in eating and sitting. By increasing virtue, one should sit upright in the early morning and evening, and bathe and prostrate to the objects of refuge at the appropriate times. There are six things that should not be spoken with the mouth: not speaking about what one does not know, not being angry, not revealing others' faults, not speaking meaningless words, not joking, and not making loud noises in temples and among the Sangha. The mouth should speak six things: recitation, chanting, mantras, praise, peaceful words, and respectfully requesting the Dharma. There are also two ways to abandon the two faults in the mind: abandoning the intention to harm and steal the property of stupas, temples, and the Sangha, and remembering the faults of decaying precepts and guarding the precepts. There are five ways to think by remembering the qualities: remembering the virtuous qualities of body and speech, knowing that samsara is suffering, that actions are impermanent, that nirvana is peaceful, and knowing that emptiness is without self. As a monk, one should also refer to the actual Vinaya of a monk and the treatises of the wise. Here, in the Sutra Requested by Indra: What monks should do is, abandon the ten non-virtues and accomplish the ten virtues, this should also be done through body, speech, and mind, practicing the four ways of practice without distraction. And in the Hevajra Tantra: Then there are the ten places of learning.
