Therefore, regarding the perfectly purified limbs—the aggregates, elements, and sense bases—there are three kinds of conceptualization: namely, the conceptualization of the arising of these themselves, the conceptualization of emptiness and so forth, the conceptualization of the perfections and so forth, the conceptualization of the path of seeing, the conceptualization of the path of meditation, and the conceptualization of the path of no more learning. Thirdly, one abandons nine kinds of conceptualization of the grasper that focuses on a person, namely: the conceptualization called grasping one's own continuum as self, as well as the self as singular, the self as constant, the agent as also the self, and similarly, grasping all afflictions, grasping detachment from desire, grasping seeing, grasping meditation, and the conceptualization of grasping what has been done. Fourthly, one abandons nine kinds of the second conceptualization of the grasper that abides in the person being examined, namely: the conceptualization of grasping the aggregates, sense bases, and elements themselves as the grasper itself, the conceptualization of examining dependent arising, the conceptualization of examining purification, and the four conceptualizations of examining the paths of seeing and meditation, the special path, and the path of no more learning. These are the fourth kind of generation of fire-like mind, because one realizes the difference of the fire of wisdom that is obtained simultaneously with application. In this stage, the yogi's intention is the main thing, and because it is the basis of the qualities as previously stated, this is said to abide in the ground of practice with defiled intention. Thus, from higher to higher, because it is the basis of qualities, one should know that there are eleven undefiled grounds. Among these, the stage of cause has the nature of the ten perfections. Other than that, it has the nature of meditation. The first bodhicitta has the nature of the path of seeing, so when it arises, the yogi will abandon one hundred and twelve afflictions. Namely: suffering, origin, cessation, and path of the desire realm, each having ten to be abandoned, so there are forty. Similarly, the form and formless realms...

If four are subtracted, it becomes seventy-two. The remaining nine grounds are the nature of cultivation. By cultivating in these grounds, one can abandon the sixteen things to be abandoned. For example, with regard to non-discrimination, the co-emergent view of the aggregates and wrong views, as well as desire, anger, pride, and ignorance, except for the anger of the higher realms. Thus, one abandons one hundred and twelve afflictions. Even if one becomes the ruler of Jambudvipa, as long as one still knowingly commits subtle downfalls, one cannot generate the mind of the first ground. Because one satisfies the minds of limitless beings and universally engages in holding, it is like a great treasure. Being able to abandon the stains of subtle downfalls, the second ground is therefore the stainless ground. Even if one becomes the ruler of the four continents, as long as one still cannot enter into the samadhi of all worldly beings, then it is the second ground. It causes all priceless jewels to arise from it, therefore it is like the source of jewels. If one can do it, one obtains the power of samadhi, therefore the third ground is the illuminating ground. Even if one becomes the lord of the Thirty-three, as long as one still cannot cultivate the aspects of enlightenment, then all unpleasant near-afflictions cannot shake him, therefore it is like a great ocean. If one can do it, by that power, the fourth ground is the radiant ground. Even if one becomes the lord of No-Strife, as long as one still cannot cultivate the truth, then he relies on correct wisdom, because he is unshakeable, so he is like a vajra. If one can do it, all the hosts of demons cannot subdue him, therefore the fifth ground is the extremely difficult to tame ground. Even if one becomes the ruler of Tushita, as long as one still cannot make the cultivation of the signless naturally accomplished, then all objects are scattered, and one cannot accomplish it, therefore it is like a mountain king. If one can do it, all the Buddha's teachings become manifest, therefore the sixth ground is the manifest ground. Even if one becomes the king of the gods of Nirmāṇarati, as long as one still cannot cultivate without interruption, then the two obscurations will completely pacify diseases.
