That is, knowing that suffering and the like are of a nature that is not beneficial, one will abandon them. And one will not seek the cause of producing them, otherwise, one is not a person with discernment, and anything other than that is like a madman. Let alone reaching the ultimate, even if one cultivates it a little, because one thinks it is beneficial and in accordance with it, one will never generate the desire for a cause that is incompatible with it, and no one knowingly takes nettles and thorns, etc. Therefore, when the fruit of that is obtained, and habituation is obtained by the power of the distinction of training in things, then only at the beginning, one reverses it by thinking of it as something to be abandoned. Therefore, that which cuts off its continuum, that is it, and the nature of it is established by the reason of its own nature. The reason is not unestablished, because the distinction is obtained by the distinction of meditation, and because of that, wisdom and the like are cultivated, so the reason is not unestablished. It is also not uncertain, because when one cultivates happiness and pleasantness, etc., one does not enter into incompatible suffering and the like. It is also not contradictory, because the suffering that is contrary to what is to be established is not established. The example is also known to all speakers, and it is apparent that this wisdom and the like become the establishment of different distinctions by the distinction of training in each individual. Furthermore, it is said that the antidote to desire is impurity, the antidote to hatred is love, and the antidote to ignorance is dependent origination. If one asks, "Therefore, is attachment to that transformed by detachment, because it has become incompatible with it?" The answer is: "If that is the case, even if one cultivates desire, one will be separated from desire." Therefore, it is said in the root tantra: "Desire is the wisdom of all Buddhas, the wisdom of desire is without defilement, subdue desire and detachment, that generates all happiness." It is said like that. Desire and the like are not inherently faulty, otherwise, one would not attain the path of stream-entry.
