The Treatise on Establishing Reality, by Śāntarakṣita. The Treatise on Establishing Reality, By Śāntarakṣita. In Sanskrit: Tattvasiddhi-nāma-prakaraṇa. In Tibetan: The Treatise on Establishing Reality. Homage to the noble Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta! I pay homage to the Vajrayāna, the source of great bliss and happiness! In order to dispel all delusion, I shall explain the establishment of reality. Here, if someone has not accumulated the lineage of habitual tendencies of the roots of virtue in the great Vajrayāna, is accustomed to clinging to things as real, their mind is stolen by the wind of their own conceptual thoughts, their mind is stained by the impurities of the entirety of the muddy swamp of disputes, they do not truly know the means of liberation from the ocean of saṃsāra, their intelligence is corrupted by many self-created conceptual thoughts, they have fallen into the mountain valleys of fearful knots, their minds are agitated by the power of being possessed by demons that are difficult to realize, they do not rely on teachers, and they are separated from the oral instructions for meditating on the ultimate truth, then those beings must be realized through other paths over countless eons, while those who possess the means of the Vajrayāna can accomplish it effortlessly in this very life. In order to dispel the cataracts of unknowingness of those who do not realize that the nature of all moving and unmoving things is without beginning or end, is without location, and that the self-awareness of the nature of all sentient beings is the characteristic of realizing the cause of great merit, which has become the means for that, and that the characteristic of the scriptures of the most sacred of all the great Vajrayāna is not realized, I shall briefly explain it with scriptures and reasoning. Therefore, those who possess conceptual thought should definitely accept that the objects such as form, etc., which are completely enjoyed by being completely grasped by skillful means and wisdom, will certainly obtain a special result. Why? Because the collection of special things certainly produces a special result, which is well-known to all speakers. For example, earth, etc.

The taste of the fruit of Emblica officinalis grown from cracks appears to be astringent. However, when it is mixed with milk and other residual substances, it becomes sweet. Therefore, just as the fruit gathered by the manifestation of other factors appears in manifestation as producing a special fruit, similarly, yogis regard forms and other objects as Mahamudra, and through the blessings of mantras and mudras, they produce a very special fruit, which the holy ones should understand. Because it arises from a collection, and not from a single word. Therefore, from other special causes, a special result will arise. Because the power of the causes and conditions of the omniscient one is inconceivable. Here, the application is: whatever is manifested through a special cause produces a special result. For example, Emblica officinalis soaked in milk and the like becomes a sweet fruit. Similarly, forms and the like are also manifested through a special cause. This is a reasoning of nature. Here, merely being manifested by other special causes, and the nature of subsequent association, that is, the nature of the pervading object that is desired to manifest as a fruit, its pervading nature manifested and gathered, is the pervaded. Therefore, whatever is the nature of being manifested and gathered by other special causes, if the cause is not incomplete and there is no obstacle, then, through being manifested and gathered by other special causes, a special result will arise, because it is related to this. Therefore, if the pervaded and pervading things are established, then the pervading thing is what is to be proven, and the pervaded is the reason. For example, for the pervading thing to be proven, such as trees and the like, the pervaded thing, such as trees and the like, is the reason, because the pervading thing is the pervaded thing. Here also, the pervaded and the pervading...
