These two are for the purpose of knowing the greatness of the terms of Dharma, for the purpose of knowing oneself as a helper to the teachings, and for the purpose of knowing the gratitude to the Blessed One. Body, speech, and mind, power and splendor, extremely sharp, gradually know the splendor. The sound of body gathers the abode of body. Whatever is the power of body, whatever is the splendor of speech, and whatever is the sharpness of mind, these three are called radiance. The sound called body is because the body is the main thing. The two, speech and mind, which abide in the body, should be known as symbols of qualities. The body, with three kinds of distinctions, is spoken of as protecting, saving, and concealing, or, because of distinctions such as heavenly ordainment, there are three kinds of harms. There are three kinds of non-virtuous actions: those to be experienced in this life, those to be experienced after birth, and those to be experienced in other times. As antidotes to the harms arising from these, protecting, saving, and concealing are taught by the Blessed One in order. Or, because there are three kinds of harms due to distinctions such as heavenly ordainment, therefore the three, protecting, saving, and concealing, are taught in order. The harm of heavenly ordainment is obviously done only by previous non-virtue, and not by other beings. For example, the falling of frost, famine, hail, and so on. The harm arising from humans is obviously harmed by sentient beings, but the heavenly ordainment is not obvious, because there is no fruit without karma. For example, even when crops and so on are about to ripen, they are harmed by enemy armies, resulting in famine and so on. The harm arising from heavenly ordainment and humans is obviously done by both. Karma is only heavenly ordainment and human harm, like saying that heavenly ordainment and human actions sustain the life of the world. Or, from the arising of self and other causes, one should know the three kinds of harms. The distinction between sentient and non-sentient beings.
