Having dwelt on the throne, the origin of the introduction was truly revealed. When the Blessed One passed into Nirvana in the city of Kushinagar, the retinue asked: "When the Blessed One passes into Nirvana, who will be our teacher? Who will we rely on? Who will subdue the six heretical teachers? How should we begin the collection of the scriptures?" The Blessed One replied: "Take this Pratimoksha as your teacher." That is: "Now that I have passed into Nirvana, this is your teacher. The ordained, with reverence, diligently praise before the assembly of the Sangha." So it was said. Dwell in mindfulness and awareness. The six heretical teachers will go to their own peace. The beginning of the collection of the scriptures should be: "Thus have I heard, at one time, the Blessed One dwelt in such and such a place, dwelling together with this retinue." As it is said in the Nirvana Sutra. The reason for becoming the cause of the Tantra is: Because of saying "Thus have I heard," five kinds of discriminations arose in the retinue of Light and others, and they asked five questions: "Having said 'Thus have I heard,' when was it heard? From which teacher was it heard? Where was it heard? With which retinue was it heard? Which perfect meaning of the spoken word was heard?" Thus they asked. As an answer to those questions, the origin of the introduction appeared. Now, explaining the meaning of the words: "Thus" means having ascertained, with the wisdom that accords with oneself and others, to completely and certainly show the meaning of the determined Tantra, and having uniquely determined, to speak truthfully. "I heard" means that I personally heard it, that is, I heard these names, meanings, and scriptures from the Blessed One, and it is not that I made them up myself, but that I know that they were collected according to what the Blessed One said. Knowing this way, it implicitly prohibits making it up arbitrarily. Having collected and dwelt in this way, if one practices, fruits will also arise, and knowing that it can also show the reality of things, people will enter. Or, "I heard" means that I heard it myself due to the power of faith, while others may have other scriptures.

This is explained by teaching the retinue that will appear. This is abandoning the various distinctions associated with others. The teacher Makhol also said, "Even if taught with just one sentence, one can realize multiple meanings, which is a great revelation to me." Everyone knows. This shows that the Bhagavan has many great qualities of speech, and even one sentence can manifest multiple meanings. Or, the phrase "I heard" does not mean that it was heard from the Bhagavan who is about to preach, or from Lokanatha (World Protector) and others, passing from one to another, but rather it is known that Vajrapani himself heard it directly from the Bhagavan. Understanding it this way excludes the situation of hearing indirectly. The meaning of "heard" is that when oneself heard it, it appeared as a Bodhisattva, but at the time of compilation, it is the Buddha. This shows that it is explained through repetition, so it is very reliable. For hearing directly, it should also be understood in this way: one should know that without a teacher, one cannot do this, which is a very clear teaching. After explaining in this way, in order to explain when, from where, where, and with whom it was heard, and the order of these, it is said "at one time." This shows that it is very rare, and it proves that oneself has heard a lot. Or, if "at one time" is combined with the Dharma, then the meaning of "at one time" is that I heard this at one time, and such an undeviating and wonderful Dharma is impossible to preach at other times, so it can be known that it is difficult to repeat. This implies excluding the situation of saying it twice or three times. Or, if "at one time" is combined with the person, then the meaning of "at one time" is that I heard this at a certain time, and at other times I heard other different sutras, which shows that I have heard a lot. Because the teacher also only said it once, and the retinue who heard it also only heard it once, but this person can compile this Dharani, so it can be known that this person is one who possesses the Dharani of non-forgetfulness. Understanding it this way, it is known that this person is one who possesses the Dharani, so he can compile it as the Bhagavan said.

If practiced, abilities will arise, and knowing that things are the true nature, people will enter. Through implication, hearing two or three times is prohibited. Now, it is explained that the actual basis goes as the cause of the tantra. Among them, the perfection of the basis is: time and teacher, place and retinue, and the perfection of the Dharma. The tantra that is spoken, if there is a special time, it will be spoken. If not, it will not be spoken, therefore, the perfection of time is said to be the cause of the arising of the tantra. When was it spoken? It was spoken at the time of subduing the demons. Therefore, it is said at one time. Even if there is time, if there is a special teacher who explains, it will be spoken. If not, it will not be spoken, therefore, the perfection of the teacher is said to be the cause of the arising of the tantra. If asked from where it was spoken, the answer is that it was spoken from the Bhagavan. Bhagavan means subduing the four demons, which are: subduing the afflictive demons, etc., because of subduing, it is said to be the subduer. Afflictions are related to wisdom, therefore it is said that wisdom is the subduer. Thus it is said. The four demons are the skandha demon, the death demon, the son of the gods demon, and the afflictive demon. This is subduing. There are two ways to subdue the four demons, namely the Rupakaya and the Dharmakaya. First, subduing the afflictive demon is: abandoning all afflictions to be abandoned and the obscurations of knowledge. Subduing the skandha demon is merely not taking the contaminated skandhas. Subduing the son of the gods demon is taming the demons at the foot of the Vajrasana. Subduing the death demon is for the sake of always disappointing the hopes of worldly people, showing Nirvana at the age of eighty. The Brahmin Sukata delayed the birth, because he did not understand the white Dharma, he offered five Utpala flowers and prayed not to pass into Nirvana, therefore he stayed for two years for him, and passed into Nirvana at the age of eighty-two, because he obtained mastery over life, therefore he subdued the death demon. Subduing the demons with the Dharmakaya is the same as subduing the son of the gods demon and the afflictive demon. Subduing the skandha demon is the cessation of all contaminated things. Because there is no cessation in the Dharmakaya, therefore he subdued the death demon. Having means: freedom and beauty, splendor and fame, and wisdom.
