Like the demeanor of a lion. For the activities of the superior, intermediate, and inferior, be endowed with great diligence, and be steadfast with excellent effort. Thus it is said. This is a limb of definite emergence, therefore it shows that it far surpasses the realm of ordinary beings. Having made joy the limb of perfect enlightenment, for a person with a one-pointed mind, joy arising from the mind greatly increases. Through joy, one obtains extreme pliancy of the body, and one with a pliant body becomes fortunate to have happiness. With bodily bliss, one-pointed mind, and samadhi, at that time, recitation becomes free from doubt. Thus it is said. This shows the limb of benefit, therefore it shows that it benefits the body and mind. Having made extreme pliancy the limb of perfect enlightenment, when accomplishment is near, there is joy in recitation, and the mind will never rejoice in sin. Even if threatened by the severe suffering of hunger, thirst, heat, cold, wind, and fatigue, one will not waver. Mosquitoes, flesh flies, worms, ants, beetles, scorpions, snakes, centipedes, and beetles and demons, flesh-eating ghouls will not even approach his body and odor. Words are worthy of being held and the mind is upright, skilled in poetry and writing. Great joy arises in the Dharma and treasures are seen, and diseases and defilements of the body are purified. Whether beings see or hear, they quickly arise with great joy and become pleasing. Those struck by the arrows of the desire goddess of women universally call for desire and enjoyment. Whenever from the sky, the bodies and sounds of gods and yakshas, gandharvas, and goddesses, when people see and hear with pure minds, then they become very close. Thus it is said. This is the basis of being without defilements, therefore being without defilements is purity, thus it is shown. Having made samadhi the limb of perfect enlightenment, just as in a windless room, a lamp placed does not move but burns, so too, a body that delights in recitation with a one-pointed mind, in the same way, is burned by the Dharma. Thus it is said. This is because both body and mind are taken hold of by extreme pliancy.
