Also offer. It says, "Just as rivers flow day and night without ceasing, similarly, merit accompanied by prostrations, recitations, and ascetic practices will increase for sentient beings." It says, "Just as even if you practice secret mantras through fire offerings and recitations, if you do not attain accomplishment, it is like erecting a hundred thousand stupas on clay, or erecting them on the sand by the riverbank. That will burn away his sins, and whatever good deeds he has done will be exhausted. Therefore, by the power of secret mantras, in this very life, one will obtain the fruit of merit." It is said that in order for the good dharmas that have arisen to remain, and to arise again, and in order to perfect them, one should generate aspiration, strive, exert effort, concentrate the mind, and properly establish it. This is what was taught. Here is a verse: "Having fully understood all unfavorable and favorable factors, in order to eliminate them, effort will arise in four forms." In order to eliminate unfavorable factors, the mind that initiates effort, the body that abides, becomes capable, and in order to become the four legs of miraculous power, after correct abandonment, the legs of miraculous power are taught. Therefore, by making the samadhi of aspiration as the master, generating faith in his Sugata, similarly, also generate the mind of enlightenment. It is said that the Vajra lineage is vast, and one should also generate faith and joy in me. This refers to when one respectfully engages in effort through the power of aspiration, one will touch upon single-mindedness. This is what was taught. By making the samadhi of effort as the master, fame and obscurity, gain and no gain, happiness and suffering, as well as praise and blame, one should destroy these worldly dharmas with the mind, and abandon the place that has become the source of sin. For example, just as the ocean will not remain together with a corpse even for a moment, similarly, the sins committed by the mind of discrimination, the mantra practitioner should not allow it to remain even for a moment. This is what was said, referring to when one initiates effort, through constant familiarization, one will touch upon single-mindedness. This is what was taught.

Having empowered the samadhi of loving-kindness, as stated in the Sutra Requested by Noble Jewel Crown, in accordance with "If great compassion is fully attained, the mind will become distracted," it is said: With the water of loving-kindness and compassion, irrigate hatred. Thus it is said. This indicates that relying on the seed of previous samadhi, the mind is held by the great compassion of its own nature, and touches the one-pointedness of the mind. Having empowered the samadhi of discernment, for a while, even an enemy may become a friend, and friends may indeed become enemies. Likewise, some may become neutral, and that neutral one may become an enemy. Therefore, it should be understood that friendship is subject to change, and the wise should never be attached. The thoughts of attachment to relatives should be reversed, and the mind should be placed comfortably on any virtuous thing. Thus it is said. And, the mind endowed with laziness, desire, and unwholesomeness, wherever it wanders and roams, should be quickly turned away from there, and skillfully applied to the offering of secret mantra syllables. Thus it is said. This indicates that whenever one can perfectly distinguish the object, one touches the one-pointedness of the mind. What are the obstacles to the mind's ability to be worked with? Laziness and instructions, forgetting, sinking, and excitement, non-application and application, these five are considered faults. It is intended to abandon these. What is the cause of that? It is the eight applications of abandonment: the place and abiding therein, the cause and the result itself. Forgetting the object, and perceiving sinking and excitement, and applying effort to that, and abiding in peace when it is calmed. Thus it is said. Here, the verses are: Abiding therein, the ability to be worked with, all purposes are accomplished and transformed, the five faults are abandoned by the eight applications, arising from the dependent cause. Having made the mind workable by the legs of miraculous power, beneath it, one has the power to generate roots of virtue that are in accordance with the aspects of liberation. Therefore, beneath the legs of miraculous power, the five faculties are arranged. Having empowered the faculty of faith, one should rely on the Three Jewels with faith. Thus it is said. This indicates that for the existent itself, and for those with qualities and those who have arisen, in order.
