Those Brahmins who are oppressed by pride, Who boast of their lineage and lack compassion, When they see the stupa of the Sugata, They will even create obstacles. How are Brahmins inferior to the Buddha? In comparison, Brahmins treat the lower castes With respect and offerings, How then can the lower castes recite secret mantras? Offering to gods and guests, and the six activities, Reliance on the king and fire, Going for the sake of their sons, These are what Brahmins must accomplish. The royal caste and the old caste also do their own work, Do not doubt this. With various false words and faults, They burn the hearts of themselves and others. Abiding in the eightfold path, constantly, One should beg for alms before noon. The time for Brahmins is in the afternoon, Therefore, do not go to the house of a Brahmin. For example, in order to heal and remove wounds, Like giving medicine to the sick, Similarly, in order to eliminate the suffering of hunger, The Victorious One said to eat food. When some are tired from walking on the road, Driven by hunger and thirst, Like eating the flesh of their own children, yogis also, like inferior minds, Should not eat for the sake of life and sustenance. If poured in too much, it will rise effortlessly, Similarly, when there is too little, the scale will turn red, When moderate, it will go evenly in an instant, Sentient beings should eat food in this way. For example, in order not to destroy an old house, People erect strong pillars, Similarly, in order for the body's mechanism to function, Eat food like oiling the axle of a cart. The desire realm exists by means of food, The Victorious One taught in one Dharma. The body should be regarded as a tree by the water, The mind should not be attached to food and drink, etc. When the six senses scatter on objects, They should be guarded by the wisdom spoken by the Sugata. Taking one from those alms bowls, Looking at the yoke, practice begging for alms. Smiling and speaking to people, with a sidelong glance, All limbs are captivating. The body of a woman is like a beautiful weapon, It can immediately steal the heart of a man. A red-hot burning iron plowshare, The eyes are

The most excellent covering! The two are women who cause loss of memory, it is best not to see women with long, slender eyes. Wherever you go, do not be attached, and subdue the mind with the mind. Having abandoned the superior and the middling, go silently to another's village. Wherever there are young calves, wherever people drink alcohol, wherever young girls play and frolic, wherever dogs eat and celebrate, wherever many people gather, and wherever music is played, practitioners should not go to those places. Whatever is obtained by begging, bring it back, and how should it be properly distributed first? After washing the feet, give it to those who visit suddenly, and eat food to protect the body. Having eaten on time, bathe three times a day. Thus it is said, this is to ensure that the body can survive, and by seeking Dharma robes and so on in a reasonable and moderate manner, without being greedy for food, this shows that he has abandoned attachment to objects, and believes that he has reduced the need for objects. Under the control of right effort, when the difficult-to-control mind becomes calm, when drowsiness obscures the memory due to reliance, one should get up and walk around, look around, and thoroughly wash the face with water. Also, the sound of flutes and the sound of drums, as well as the very frightening sounds of people, the sounds of clamor and noise, and songs and dances, zithers and lutes, and the sound of earthenware drums, the sounds of various birds and the sound of water, the sound of women's ornaments jingling, and the harm of mosquitoes, heat and cold, and wind, will cause the human mind to be distracted and agitated. Thus it is said, here only a few methods of avoiding the faults of sinking and agitation are mentioned. In reality, the diligence in the state of samadhi, which is free from sinking and agitation, and is held by right view, is the true diligence. In order to abandon the afflictions that should be cultivated, one cultivates the antidote, the right path.
