Then, what is the need for meditation through methods such as vidyā-mantras? The secret mantra meditation is the most secret, truly spoken. Even great ascetic sages cannot achieve without these. Thus it is said. This indicates that if there is no secret mantra meditation, then even the sages who diligently practice secret mantras cannot achieve. Therefore, the secret mantra meditation should be explained. Here, there are two types of secret mantra meditation: the four limbs of recitation, and dwelling in fire, and meditation on sound, etc., and other than that, it is the meditation of one's own deity yoga. This verse speaks of the benefits of the four limbs of recitation, and dwelling in fire, and the secret mantra meditation on sound, etc. Therefore, connect it with "The meditation of those secret mantras is said to be the most secret." Meditation is the mind. The definition of secret mantra meditation, which dwells in the four limbs, etc., is to repeatedly manifest it. The word "བྱ་བ་" means existence, therefore, the thought of secret mantras is the most secret existence, which is its definition. Supreme is sacred. Secret is not showing, so it is understood like this: Although the secret mantra meditation is the heart essence of the limbs of all secret mantra achievements, it is not clearly separated and shown in each tantra, in order to re-collect, and for the sake of guiding those who cannot diligently perform the limbs of meditation such as life and effort. In the obscure words, almost everything is said, and it will be explained later. Secret mantra is the nature of sound and letters, the definition of those placed in the moon mandala, etc., in the heart of the Tathagata. "Without those" means that if there is no nature of thinking about sound and letters, those meditations will not attain excellent achievements, etc. Then, who is it? The specifics of austerity indicate external actions such as recitation, bathing, and fire offerings. This shows that even an ascetic who possesses discipline, asceticism, and vows, and who possesses great austerity, cannot achieve accomplishment without the contemplation of secret mantras. Now, from the perspective of showing the greatness of self through the specifics of recitation, the benefits of contemplation are shown, which are the characteristics of the yoga of transforming oneself into the deity. The secret mantra yogis, The secret mantra recitation is like a blazing fire, Destroying birth and death, The Vajra Holder previously said. This means that for secret mantra yogis, the recitation of secret mantras by practitioners is recitation, which is connected to the term "blazing fire." Here, recitation refers to the recitation of secret mantras that is spoken in the mind and whispered. Secret mantra refers to the words such as the nature of sound and letters residing on the moon mandala in the heart of the Thus Gone One. "Secret mantra yogis" refers to those practitioners who possess the characteristics of the form of the secret mantra deity, the yoga of non-duality and inseparability, who are secret mantra yogis, which is a term for the yoga of the deity itself. Their recitation is connected to the term "blazing fire." Therefore, the recitation of those who have practiced the yoga of the deity is like a blazing fire, which shows the characteristics of the yoga of the deity, that is, the benefits of contemplation are shown through the yoga of the deity. The metaphor of recitation taken from the blazing fire should also be understood in this way. Because the characteristics of the deity's suchness, after first examining the suchness of the self, are shown as the yoga of the deity. Examining the suchness of the self is also the antidote to the two obscurations of affliction and knowledge.
