Since you have attained what was mentioned earlier, you have become a Buddha. Then, what need is there for recitation? That is his thought. Now, in order to show the ritual of attaining desired accomplishments, yoga, and liberation solely through meditation without relying on recitation, therefore, in order to show the place of meditation for secret mantras, (it is said in the scripture:) "In a secluded garden and hillside, in caves, mountains, and forests, through asceticism or discipline, the mantra practitioner meditates and dwells." Thus it was declared. Among these, the intention regarding the place of meditation is: Like this, there are two kinds of places, namely the difference in the cause of physical seclusion and mental seclusion. For recitation, the difference in places such as lotus lakes, mountains, and caves, which possess any qualities and virtues, is also chosen in order to be in accordance with the activity and accomplishment. For meditation, it is appropriate to dwell in a place that possesses both causes of physical seclusion and mental seclusion. Therefore, it is precisely possessing the cause of the virtues of both of these that secluded gardens and the like are shown at the time of meditation. The places for recitation, those and others, should also be referred to as stated earlier in this tantra. Meditating means the characteristic of being close, and one should also observe meditative stabilization. Asceticism is ordination and the asceticism of knowledge mantras, and so on. Discipline is the characteristic of fasting and so on. Meditating, as it is said, what should be contemplated is the nature of the deity here, therefore one should examine it. Among these, there are three kinds of deity nature, namely the deity nature of the form body, the deity nature of sound, and the ultimate deity nature. Among these, the deity nature of the form body also has two aspects: one is the nature of the shape of limbs such as the eyes, and the second is the nature of the mudra. The deity nature of sound also has two aspects: one is the characteristic of letters, and the second is the nature of vocalization. The nature of vocalization also has three aspects: one is

The nature of sound produced by the effort of lips and teeth, etc., recited in whispers, etc. The second is the nature of generally reciting secret mantras in the mind. The third is the nature of individually contemplating each letter of the secret mantra as the essence of the mind. The nature of the ultimate deity is also twofold, one of which is the nature of the Dharmadhatu. The other is the nature of non-conceptual wisdom without the appearance of clinging to it. Thus, all these distinctions of the nature of the deity, for the four-limbed ritual of recitation, the Suchness of the deity, and how to examine between the end of the recitation, those have been explained. For those who desire the fruit of secret mantras from meditation without relying on recitation, how to meditate on how the three natures are possible in the order to be explained below. Among them, the so-called "sound as spoken" refers to the nature of meditation in which the letters of the distinctions of the deity, the distinctions of the limbs of the secret mantra, are individually contemplated by the mind. The second is the nature of the sound of the letters that speak the words of the vidya-mantra itself. The third is the nature of the completely pure, non-dual wisdom realm, the Dharmadhatu. In order to show the union of meditation and the fruit of meditation, how those three natures are possible, (the text says:) "Secret mantra not abiding gives accomplishment, sound abiding gives yoga, sound ending gives liberation, these are those three." Thus it is said. Among them, the two lines "Secret mantra not abiding gives accomplishment, sound abiding gives yoga" show that from the union of meditation on the two possible natures of the deity, supreme accomplishment and the nature of yoga in which the mind abides equally are achieved. The phrase "sound ending gives liberation" also shows that liberation is attained from the deity meditation on the nature of the Dharmadhatu. Those three unions of meditation, although they are conventional truths, do not change from attaining the fruit as spoken, therefore, all three are said to be the three Suchnesses. The Suchness of recitation, etc.
