"Without characteristics" means that the mind of enlightenment does not have the characteristics of blue, yellow, etc. "Transcending all elaborations" means that elaboration refers to conceptualization, which is without conceptualization. "Immeasurable like the sky" means that because there is no conceptualization, it is like the sky. The sky is immeasurable, and its dimensions cannot be stated. Similarly, the qualities of the mind of enlightenment cannot be measured. "Becoming the opportunity for all phenomena" means that all phenomena refer to conditioned phenomena. If these conditioned phenomena are broken down into the various parts of dust particles, or broken down into forms such as illusions and mirages, they will become the nature of emptiness. Because it is of one taste with the mind of enlightenment, it becomes the opportunity for all phenomena. Secondly, "all phenomena" refers to the qualities of the Buddha, the Bhagavan, such as the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, and the eighteen unshared qualities. Because these abide in the mind of enlightenment, they become the opportunity for all phenomena. "Separated from the realms of conditioned and unconditioned" means separated from the conditioned because, after obtaining the mind of the first ground, it becomes the antidote to unfavorable factors, so it is separated from them. Separated from the unconditioned because, without abandoning the habitual tendencies of the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge, it does not abide in the realm of nirvana. "Separated from the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind" means that it is not produced by the eye, etc., as a cause, like the consciousnesses of the eye, etc., so it is separated from them. "The mind that is utterly without inherent existence" means that because it is not associated with any of the above-mentioned phenomena, it does not have their characteristics or nature. Therefore, it is the mind that is utterly without inherent existence. "Arising" means that the characteristic of the mind that is without inherent existence in this way, due to the accumulation of the accumulations of merit and wisdom for countless eons mentioned above, and the perfection of the qualities of the first ground, one should know that this mind arises for the sake of unsurpassed enlightenment. They are liberated from afflictions and karma, and also associated with karma and afflictions, they are the basis of worldly giving, they are constantly offered like mountains.

As it is said, "Liberated from the karma of afflictions" means being separated from the karma of the lower realms and the opposing factors of the first ground. Also, "endowed with karma and afflictions" means being endowed with the karma that enables one to attain the higher grounds and the afflictions that obscure them. "These are the abodes of generosity in the world" means that bodhisattvas with such minds are fields of merit for those who lack wealth, grain, jewels, and other resources. "Worship" refers to the places where offerings are made with incense, flowers, and so on. "Reverence" refers to the places of respect where one bows, folds one's palms, greets, and escorts. Therefore, "constant worship" means that worldly people should make offerings and show respect to such bodhisattvas. Now, the characteristics and qualities of the ground practiced through afflictions will be explained. Furthermore, Lord of Secrets, from "The ground of practice through faith" to "The intelligent one will completely transcend the ground in one kalpa." "Through faith" means that through the wisdom of listening, contemplating, and meditating, if one knows the qualities of the Buddha, such as the grounds and the perfections, then one develops great faith, thinking that only this is true and nothing else. "Meditate separately on the three minds" refers to the entering mind, the abiding mind, and the rising mind. The method of meditating separately on these has already been explained in the context of the selflessness of phenomena. "Practicing through faith" means not only having faith in the Dharma but also diligently cultivating its qualities. Therefore, it is said, "Practice the perfections and the four means of gathering." "Practicing the perfections" means that from the first ground to the tenth, one practices each perfection, such as generosity, on each ground. Just as I practice the perfections, so too do I gather other sentient beings through the four means of gathering and lead them to practice. Among these, the quality of great joy is to practice the perfection of giving Dharma and material things with a joyful mind. When abiding on the ground of practicing through faith, one practices oneself and also gathers other sentient beings.
