will be completed. Then, with one-fourth of a kalpa, progressing from the ground of practice based on aspiration, the order of entering the ground of wisdom is explained. Secret Lord, therefore, relying on the minds of those beings, even the selflessness of phenomena should be abandoned, that is, one's own mind is unborn from the very beginning. Why is that? Secret Lord, in order to fully know the essence, yogis do not focus on the prior and posterior limits of the mind, and this also takes two kalpas to pass. Among them, relying on the minds of those beings, even the selflessness of phenomena should be abandoned, that is, one's own mind is unborn from the very beginning, which means that previously, having realized the selflessness of phenomena, grasping only consciousness, and thinking that there are aspects of grasper and grasped, that has also become one's own reliance, realizing that consciousness is unborn from the very beginning, therefore abandoning the notion that only consciousness exists, even the selflessness of phenomena is abandoned. Why is it said that abandoning the notion that only consciousness exists is abandoning the selflessness of phenomena? Because the cause of realizing the selflessness of the aggregates and so on gives rise to the notion that only consciousness exists. Therefore, abandoning the notion that only consciousness exists is abandoning the selflessness of phenomena, which is establishing the result based on the cause. So, how does one abandon the notion that only consciousness exists? Why is that? Secret Lord, in order to fully know the essence, one does not focus on the prior and posterior limits of the mind. As it is said, if one searches for the limit of where one's own mind initially arises, one cannot find that limit. Thus, because there is no initial limit, it is also impossible to find the final limit of cessation, that is, one cannot find the initial and final limits. Thus, because there is no initial limit, the mind appears to be unborn, and thus, if it has not arisen from the beginning, then where is the consciousness that appears as grasper and grasped, and what is it? Thinking about these things, abandoning the notion that only consciousness exists is said to be abandoning the selflessness of phenomena. Meditating in such a way, abandoning the selflessness of phenomena will also be completed in two kalpas. Now is the Joyful Ground.

Now, I shall explain the stages of generating the mind of enlightenment of the ground. Furthermore, Lord of Secrets, other Bodhisattvas, through the gate of secret mantras, practice the conduct of Bodhisattvas, and in countless billions of eons, accumulate immeasurable collections of merit and wisdom, from "generating a mind that is utterly devoid of inherent existence" to "Lord of Secrets, this is the first mind of enlightenment, thus have the Buddhas spoken," explains the cause that is perfectly complete, the nature that is perfectly complete, the characteristic that is perfectly complete, and the accomplishment of that characteristic that are perfectly complete, of the mind of enlightenment of the first ground. It should be understood that the cause that is perfectly complete is the accumulation of immeasurable collections of merit and wisdom in countless billions of eons. The nature that is perfectly complete is from "being completely grasped by immeasurable wisdom and means" to "being paid homage to by Indra and near-Indra, and so forth." That nature that is perfectly complete also includes the abandonment that is perfectly complete and the power that is perfectly complete; the abandonment that is perfectly complete is "being completely grasped by immeasurable wisdom and means" and "having completely transcended the actions of all Hearers and Solitary Realizers." The power that is perfectly complete is "being paid homage to by the world with gods and non-gods" and "being paid homage to by Indra, Brahma, Isvara, and near-Isvara, and so forth." The characteristic that is perfectly complete is "generating a mind that is utterly devoid of inherent existence." The accomplishment of that characteristic that is perfectly complete is, for example, from "the nature of emptiness is without substance" to "being separated from eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind." In that, "accumulating immeasurable collections of merit and wisdom in countless billions of eons," a koti of eons refers to one hundred million. A hundred thousand refers to a hundred thousand koti of eons, and "immeasurable" refers to that hundred thousand koti of eons also being immeasurable and uncountable in generating the first mind, or starting from meditating on the selflessness of persons, merit.

Through accumulating the accumulations of merit and wisdom, the mind of the first bhumi, the Extremely Joyful, will completely accomplish the characteristic of selflessness, which is extremely joyful in nature. What is meant by being completely grasped by immeasurable wisdom and means is that wisdom is what makes one fully understand the nature of all dharmas, and means is what makes sentient beings fully ripen and liberate through the power of great compassion. Immeasurable refers to the wisdom and means themselves, which cannot be measured as just this much. Thus, by wisdom realizing that all dharmas are without self-nature, thereby abandoning afflictions and so on, and by means making sentient beings ripen and liberate, thereby abandoning the lower realms and so on, possessing qualities, therefore its abandonment and realization are complete. What is meant by completely grasping is that the mind of enlightenment is completely grasped by such wisdom, immeasurable means, and complete abandonment and realization. What is meant by completely surpassing all the deeds of shravakas and pratyekabuddhas also refers to possessing such wisdom and immeasurability, surpassing the views of shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, being the realm of the noble ones or not being their field of activity, and this is also complete abandonment and realization. Being revered by the world including gods and asuras, what is meant by being revered by Indra, Brahma, Ishvara, and Near-Ishvara, etc., refers to possessing the power of being worshiped and revered by such powerful beings of the world, such as Ishvara, etc., therefore it is complete power. If the mind of enlightenment has no form, how do they revere it? Answer: Even if it has no form, but upon hearing of its qualities and great miraculous powers, they will revere and prostrate. Or it can also refer to paying homage to the bodhisattva who possesses such a mind. What is meant by being like the nature of emptiness is that the mind of enlightenment has no nature of grasper and grasped, and like space, it is the nature of emptiness. What is meant by being without substance is that because it is such a nature of emptiness, it is not the nature of substance such as atoms. What is meant by being without characteristics is that it is not the characteristic of the self, etc., which is conceived by non-Buddhists, etc., and all three realms become the cause of birth and destruction.
