One should not engage in abandoning the aspects of grasping and apprehending characteristics. The term "essence of the nature of reality" refers to phenomena such as the aggregates. Their essence is the essence of the nature of reality, which includes the individual characteristics of blue, red, and so on. Thus, the realization that only the characteristics of blue, red, and so on exist, without conceiving of any real entity in the aggregates, is called the realization of the realm of peace. "Peace" refers to the mind-stream being peaceful because it is free from the delusion of conceiving of the aggregates as real. "Realm" refers to the nature of reality. "Realization" refers to understanding such a state thoroughly. Lord of Secrets! "Yogis who are associated with the eight distinctions of mundane and supramundane minds, and who are free from the net of karma and afflictions, pass through a kalpa," means that the peaceful mind that realizes that only the individual characteristics of phenomena exist, having been liberated from grasping the aggregates as real, begins with the absence of reality in the aggregates and enters into the realization that the individual characteristics of phenomena are exhausted in blue and so on. By passing beyond that very mind for a kalpa, they realize the selflessness of phenomena and enter the stage of practice through faith. Among these, "the eight distinctions of mundane and supramundane minds" refers to the eight minds from entering the stream-enterer to the arhat. These minds are inverted and not inverted because they grasp the reality of conceiving of the aggregates and so on, and are therefore inverted. Because they have abandoned afflictions, they are not inverted. Because they still have the imprints of afflictions, they are inverted. "Association" refers to the fact that the peaceful mind that realizes the selflessness of the aggregates is generated by the eight stages of the mind that grasps the aggregates as real. Therefore, it is said to be "associated with the eight distinctions of mundane and supramundane minds." These are the minds of dull-witted Bodhisattvas who practice the conduct of mantras, gradually realizing the selflessness of persons.
