Because they are the same. Such Bodhicitta should be understood as the main cause of the omniscient wisdom. Compassion is the root, because sentient beings are tormented by suffering and want to be free from it, so through the door of compassion, Bodhicitta such as aspiration arises. Therefore, compassion becomes the root of Bodhicitta, so it is regarded as the cause of the cause. Secondly, it is called the root because it makes the omniscient wisdom abide. By the Dharani of compassion, it does not abide in the unliberated suffering, but always abides in the peace of Nirvana that does not reside in suffering, and relies on the conventional and ultimate wisdom, like the root of a tree as a support, so it is the root of the omniscient wisdom. The ultimate is the means, the means refers to generosity Paramita and so on. Because they show the ultimate result of completely combining the omniscient wisdom, so they are regarded as the ultimate. If it is said that the cause of omniscience is Bodhicitta, in order to show what Bodhi itself is, it is said from "Secret Lord, what is Bodhi" to "For example, the nature of space." The above-mentioned Bodhicitta is the cause of the omniscient wisdom, this is to explain the nature of Bodhi. Secret Lord, what is Bodhi? That is, to fully and truly know one's own mind. What is meant by "what is" is which one of the Bodhi of Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas and Mahayana? It refers to what kind of Bodhi should not be done. To fully and truly know one's own mind means that the mind that combines sees the appearance of a vase, etc., and the subsequent moment of consciousness denies that the appearance of the vase, etc. is not real, thus denying the aspect of what is taken. If there is no what is taken, the aspect of what can be taken does not exist. In this way, knowing that it is separated from the nature of what can be taken and what is taken, completely pure, without appearance, and naturally pure, is to fully and truly know one's own mind. Similarly, in other scriptures, from the four wisdoms

The wisdom of equality is explained as enlightenment. Mirror-like wisdom, discriminating wisdom, and the wisdom of diligent action are known as omniscient wisdom. Among them, regarding the term "unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment," "unsurpassed" means that there is no enlightenment superior to that enlightenment. "Perfectly enlightened" refers to attaining enlightenment without error. Although Hearers and Solitary Buddhas have abandoned the obscuration of afflictions, they have not abandoned the obscuration of knowledge, so they are not completely free from error. Abandoning both the obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge is perfect enlightenment. "Completely enlightened" means fully enlightened, because the ultimate residue of the obscurations of knowledge and afflictions is completely abandoned, it is called fully enlightened. Secondly, truly knowing one's own mind as it is, means knowing that all phenomena, both conventional and ultimate, are empty in every way. "Lord of Secrets, for that (enlightenment), there is not even a particle of dharma, nor is it identifiable," because for enlightenment, the nature of the five aggregates, the eighteen elements, the twelve sources, and the phenomena of the grasped and the grasper, not even a trace remains. Therefore, enlightenment itself does not exist as a grasping nature, nor is it identifiable, because it is not an object of identification, so there is no nature of the grasped either. Why is that? Because the nature of enlightenment is like space. That is to say, for it, the nature of space is also the nature of permanence, immutability, and emptiness, but here it refers to the absence of inherent existence of the grasped and the grasper. Therefore, to show it, it is said that for it, there is no agent of attaining enlightenment, nor is there any object to be attained. The agent of attaining enlightenment is the grasper, and the object to be attained is the grasped, because for enlightenment, neither the grasper nor the grasped exists. Why is that? Because enlightenment has no characteristics. That is to say, enlightenment has no characteristics of appearance such as blue and yellow colors, and shapes. Understanding that all phenomena also have no characteristics, etc., truly knowing one's own mind is enlightenment, so it is declared.
