Afterwards, drawing a mandala on the ground should be understood as an image of the self-existing mandala. Thus, if one contemplates the mandala in the sky with the mind, why is there a need to measure with a string? It is because contemplating the self-existing mandala in the sky requires relying on a sign. Then, the text says, "Take another string and cloth," which means that it is not permissible to draw with the inferior part of the previous string, so it means taking another five-colored thread to draw the subsequent mandala. The text says, "Looking towards the east and measuring, while remembering the Tathagata," which is to ensure that the mandala is established without error, so the string is measured from the center in a crosswise manner. A peg is placed where it falls in the center of the mandala, and then, looking at that string, holding the central peg, the four corners are determined. Having determined it in this way, four pegs are also placed as signs at the four corners. The string should also not lose its knots, and marks such as strings should be made. The text says, "Remembering the Tathagata," which means remembering the Tathagatas. Then, the text says, "Then going to the south, measuring to the north," which also refers to measuring the cross itself. The text says, "The wise one then circles around, staying in the direction of Nirriti, measuring to the north," which means that the teacher stays at the junction of the south and west, facing north, and measures the string on the west side. The text says, "From there, turn to the right, turning and staying there, also measuring to the south," which means that the teacher stays at the junction of the southwest, facing north, and then turns his face to the east, staying there and facing east. The companion holding the string circles the mandala and goes to the junction of the east and south, measuring the string on the south side. The text says, "Then leaving that place, staying in the direction of fire, also measuring the east side, the mantra practitioner abides in the ritual of mantra," which means that the teacher leaves the southwest and stays in the southeast, measuring the string on the east side. "The mantra practitioner abides in the ritual of mantra" means abiding in the samadhi of Vairochana.

Then, going to Ishana (direction name), facing west, measure the north side with "Bre-ba," until it meets the corner of the wind. It means that the Acharya (Sanskrit: Ācārya, Master) is located at the junction of north and east, and the side facing north should be measured with a thread to "Bre-ba." Similarly, what the mantra practitioner does is that everything must be square. It means that, like the characteristics mentioned above, everything in the mandala should be made square. When measuring the thread of the mandala like this, first the west, then the south, then the east, and then the north, why is that? The western direction is considered the Wisdom of Discriminating Awareness. The south is considered the Wisdom of Equality. The east is considered the Mirror-like Wisdom. The north is considered the Wisdom of Accomplishing Activities. Therefore, it first transforms into the Wisdom of Discriminating Awareness, and from its perfection, the Wisdom of Equality is perfected. From the Wisdom of Equality, the Mirror-like Wisdom is perfected. From the Mirror-like Wisdom, the characteristics of body, enjoyment, and dwelling, that is, the Wisdom of Accomplishing Activities, arise. Therefore, it is described in this order. The aim of the four wisdoms is also the purity of the Dharmadhatu. Therefore, each of the four faces that appear when measuring the thread crosswise belongs to the Dharmadhatu. The confluence of the cross is the characteristic of the Dharmadhatu. After measuring the thread like this, divide it from the ground, wet it with a thread of one color, and straighten it. In order to make it appear without decorating the cloth, nail it there. Then enter the center, "Then divide into three pieces of cloth." It means that the Acharya enters that mandala and divides the cloth into three pieces, and from these three pieces, divide them into four parts, and each part is connected to one side. Similarly, the two pieces of cloth should also be understood. The meaning of making three pieces of cloth is, "That land should also be completely surrounded," which means that the mandala should be surrounded by three layers. Each piece should also be made, "Cut into three sections," which means that each of the three pieces of cloth should also be divided into three parts, one part is used as the surrounding cloth, and two parts are used as the abode of the deities.
