It is also impossible to understand those aspects. If asked how to understand emptiness, it is understood by being free from attachment to things and non-things. Therefore, it is said (in the sutra): "Contemplate things and non-things." Then, the Blessed One Vajrapani requested, "Blessed One, please explain the continuum of mind." This refers to what was said earlier, that after one hundred and sixty continuums of mind, the mind of enlightenment arises. Please explain what the characteristics of these continuums of mind are like. From this request to "speak, listen," it refers to allowing the request to be spoken. Explaining these contents, secret lord, is from "This is the mind of desire, this is the mind without desire" to "excellent mind, vast mind." Explaining these minds should also be understood as abandoning names and characteristics, and explaining the door of the path. The nature of these minds is also fourfold, namely afflictions, virtue, non-virtue, and neutral. Therefore, to transcend these minds, in general, from the perspective of mantra, there are two types of behavior: those who have attained accomplishment and those who have vows. Among them, the accomplished one is from the stage of practice of faith, leaping at will in the body of the nature of mind, without the words of sequence and kalpa. There are also two types of vow-holders: those with dull faculties and those with sharp faculties. Among them, those with dull faculties are those who, from the beginning, in the worldly path, give rise to the idea of emptiness as the only path, and gradually realize the selflessness of the individual. These minds also recognize that they are painful, impermanent, empty, and selfless. Starting from the worldly path, for up to three kalpas, practice the selflessness of the individual, and then the idea arises about the aggregates, and this idea is also refuted, like illusion and mirage, realizing the selflessness of phenomena, practicing the three minds, and entering the stage of practice of faith, which distinguishes and observes the perfection of wisdom and so on. Those with sharp faculties are those who, from the very beginning, realize the selflessness of both the individual and phenomena. Therefore, these minds are also like illusion and mirage.

Through wisdom, one abandons and cultivates the three minds. The transcendent mothers, through the order of discernment, complete the stage of aspiring conduct in one kalpa, and enter the stage of wisdom with one-fourth of that kalpa. Having entered the stage of aspiring conduct, whether the faculties are sharp or dull, both complete that stage in one kalpa, and similarly enter the stage of wisdom in one-fourth of a kalpa. The sixty objects of mind are also connected to sixty strands. Dividing the obscurations into three parts: coarse, medium, and fine, one takes one from these three, and again divides each into three, thus observing a total of nine. Among these, for the greatest of the great obscurations, one abandons one mind; for the medium of the great obscurations, one abandons two minds; for the smallest of the great obscurations, one abandons three minds; for the greatest of the medium obscurations, one abandons four minds; for the medium of the medium obscurations, one abandons five minds; for the smallest of the medium obscurations, one abandons six minds; for the greatest of the small obscurations, one abandons seven minds; for the medium of the small obscurations, one abandons eight minds. In the manner that will appear below, one thus abandons one hundred and sixty minds from the stage of aspiring conduct, and completes that stage. Among these nine, at the end, the smallest of the smallest is abandoned from the stage of aspiring conduct; one should know that this is entering the stage of wisdom. So, what is the mind of desire? It is that which shows the dharma of desire. The so-called mind of desire refers to the mind that possesses desire, and it relates to the four dharmas of virtue, non-virtue, affliction, and the unstated. One should know how to approach it with the corresponding attachment. For example, having faith in and making offerings to the gods, etc., clinging to the act of making offerings, etc., and doing these things, this is called approaching the dharma of desire, and it is virtuous. Similarly, clinging to women, etc., and doing things related to them, this is called approaching the dharma of desire, and it is the mind of affliction. Taking what is not given, lying, etc., clinging to these dharmas, and doing these things, this is called approaching the dharma of desire, and it is the mind of non-virtue. Clinging to crafts, etc., and doing things related to them, this is called approaching the dharma of desire, and it is unstated. Similarly, for other minds, one should also distinguish according to the situation, what is virtuous.
