The so-called "to be diligent in everything" is a summary of the words mentioned above. The learning of the world and the Shravakas is not without skillful means and wisdom, but as mentioned before, it is the way of having wisdom and skillful means. In this way, all dharmas should be applied. Then, the Blessed One, with his eyes of loving-kindness and great compassion, looked at the realms of sentient beings and spoke to the Bodhisattva Vajrapani, which is to explain in detail each of the Bodhisattva's teachings that were only mentioned by name before. Loving-kindness is to place all sentient beings in happiness, and the characteristic of compassion is to free sentient beings from suffering. Loving-kindness and compassion are the eyes of the Blessed One, because loving-kindness is suitable for placing the realms of sentient beings in happiness, and compassion is suitable for looking at those who should be liberated from suffering. In other occasions, Vajrapani is called the Lord of Secrets, and Vajrapani is called the Bodhisattva, because this teaching is common to all Bodhisattvas. In this way, Bodhisattvas should completely abstain from intentionally killing. As it is said in the Vinaya and other scriptures, one should abstain from killing with five conditions. One should abstain from sticks. One should protect the lives of others as one protects oneself. Holding weapons, bearing grudges, and being hostile are branches of killing, so abstaining from these is to perfect the branches. Similarly, the remaining parts such as taking what is not given are also clear, as stated in the scriptures. Although sometimes things that should not be done are explained, this is for Bodhisattvas who belong to the lay side. For the ordained, it is not so because it contradicts the Vinaya. This is from the chapter on the precepts of Bodhisattvas. Then, from the Vajrapani, Lord of Secrets, saying to the Blessed One, "Please explain" to "Even if one enjoys temporary happiness and becomes a temporary king, one will not fall," are the things of the ten virtuous deeds mentioned above, the root of

Asking about the specifics of how not to degenerate and not to diminish (precepts). Regarding this, the precepts of the ordained have been explained in the Pratimoksha Sutra, so they are not mentioned here. Here, it refers to the Bodhisattva who remains at home, which is of two types: taking the five precepts and guarding the received precepts as a vow. Among them, "the precepts of these ten virtuous paths diminish" means, please explain to what extent the precepts of the ten virtuous paths of a Bodhisattva who has taken the five precepts will disappear. "Completely breaking the root" means, please explain to what extent it will disappear for those who have not taken the five precepts but guard them as their own vow. "How is it, Blessed One, that a Bodhisattva who remains at home, surrounded by wives, daughters, livestock, and attendants, enjoying immediate pleasures, wealthy, and even acting as a king, will not fall into wrongdoing?" This is to explain the previous two sentences, specifically asking about the Bodhisattva who remains at home. The Bodhisattva who remains at home, surrounded by children and attendants, enjoying the prosperity of gods and humans, even possessing power, will not be bound by these. Through skillful means, they will not degenerate from the ten virtuous precepts and will not fall into wrongdoing. Please explain this. This is connected to the Blessed One's subsequent answer. Here, the explanation is divided specifically for Bodhisattvas who remain at home, that is, exercising the power of a king in many ways. "Having fully grasped through skillful means, fully displaying games, dances, magic tricks, and various skills, etc.," that is, striving to know everything according to the power of time and place. The ordained will strive and exert effort for this, while the Bodhisattva who remains at home is not limited by time and place. Not only in this life but also in many lifetimes, they contemplate and strive, and through various methods, they strive to be born in any place, such as a Buddha-field. Therefore, it is said, "Having fully grasped through skillful means in this way," etc., displaying music and many kinds of skills, is also to be in accordance with the individual inclinations of sentient beings.
