Its initial teaching is: the ignorant will not understand that clinging is the root of suffering; as long as clinging is not abandoned, one is not a Buddha in this world, nor can one be called omniscient. Thus it is said. The meaning of completely subduing one's own mind is extensively explained in tantras such as the 'Manifestation of the Vajra Vow'. Then, starting from the third day, one begins to draw the mandala, first examining the land, the characteristics of which are: the first step of blessing the land is said to be done by the perfectly enlightened one; the second step is to act according to the mind, and this cannot be done in any other way. Thus it is said. Among them, 'acting according to the mind' means that the teacher's intention is the thought that 'I will draw the mandala here'. The perfectly enlightened one examines the land in ten ways, namely: when examining, the cow dung does not fall to the ground; smearing with cow urine; praising with secret mantras to pacify obstacles; offering the mandalas of the gods with scented ointment; in the place of the mandala, making efforts to invite the perfectly enlightened ones; making offerings with incense and flowers, etc.; with the mind of examining, placing the hand on the ground; reciting the noble one who transcends the three realms, and any of the immovable mantras; inviting the deities of the mandala, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas; pleasing the deities of the secret mantra place; sleeping in the mandala; and divining good dreams. These ten ways are the teachings on how to examine the land. Therefore, as it is said, in any place, the ground should be carefully leveled, the cow dung should not fall to the ground, mixing and smearing with cow urine, etc., should be done in detail. Then, the mantra holder observes dreams, or a famous Bodhisattva appears, or the Buddha Bhagavan appears, for the benefit of sentient beings, one strives hard, or says to oneself: Great Bodhisattva, child, you are very good! Draw the mandala quickly!

Even seeing the arising of faith is acceptable. It is said in between like this. After occupying all the land in this way, draw the mandala like tomorrow, and after examining all those disciples, occupy them. The Third Chapter. The characteristics of the disciples are of three kinds, namely, special characteristics, common characteristics, and extremely differentiated characteristics. In order to show the special characteristics among them, it is said, "The disciple has faith and is of noble lineage, likewise has faith in the Three Jewels, and possesses profound wisdom," and so on. Therefore, it is impossible for many people to have such characteristics, so it is said, "Ten or eight or seven or five, one, two, or four or more are also acceptable," universally showing a definite number. Precisely because of this, those who have previously become accustomed to practicing the boundless ways of the Great Vehicle Secret Mantra are Vajrasattva, and for the sake of their own benefit, this limit of number has been determined. Regarding the common characteristics, it refers to the occupation that is carried out in order to allow those who do not have such qualities to enter the mandala as well. Precisely because of this, however, the Acharya has great compassion and only vows to liberate all sentient beings, and in order to make them the cause of bodhicitta, countless sentient beings should be occupied. Regarding the extremely differentiated characteristics of the disciple, from the difference between time and non-time, the disciple should be known to be of four kinds, namely, one is to achieve immediately, two is to achieve and not achieve, and the disciple who possesses all the characteristics is the best of the victors. Among them, "one is to achieve immediately" means that the disciple sees the mandala, is accustomed to and accepts bodhicitta, receives mudras and secret mantras from the Acharya, understands the rituals of practicing secret mantras from hearing the tantras, and is proficient in activities such as pacifying, as well as the rituals of activities such as supreme accomplishment. A person with such qualities is placed in the mandala in order to become a means for the Acharya.
