You should not regard that sage of the past as someone else. It should be recognized that the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Shakyamuni is this very one. You should not regard his father as someone else; you, the lord of the gods, were the father in that time. You should not regard his mother as someone else; Shariputra was the mother in that time. You should not regard the mandala of the retinue as another; the present retinue of gods is that very one. As it was said, here, three intentions should be understood. One is that the gods and others, in this very life, strive in virtuous deeds, generating true joy. The second is that it was declared to have truly arisen from the power of the confluence of past causes. The third is that the Tathagata's emanations are immeasurable, and in every way, they benefit all sentient beings. For example, when a great forest catches fire, some see the fire burning, some see it nearing death, some see the ashes of what has already died, and some see it spreading. Similarly, the Tathagata's immeasurable emanations benefit beings; in some realms of the three thousand great thousand worlds, they show the aspect of passing into nirvana; in some realms, they show the manifestation of perfect enlightenment; in some realms, they show the twelve deeds; in some realms, they show the turning of the wheel of Dharma; in some realms, they show the forms of sages, vidyadharas, boys, girls, sisters, and so forth, and it should be known that they truly teach the Dharma to sentient beings. It should be known that this is the very nature of the Sugata, who, from beginningless time, has benefited sentient beings through the power of great compassion. In truth, it is not an explanation of these forms. Then, Indra, Brahma, and other sons of the gods were delighted, their hairs stood on end, and they shouted loudly, "Victory! Victory! Victory!" The Blessed One named Vajrapani
