The tips of the fingers are joined and bent, the two thumbs are bent inward, and repeated. These are called the mudras of commitment. Here, the Blessed One, in order to represent the activities of body, speech, and mind arising from the heart, only spoke of the mudras of commitment. Activities arise from dance, and dharma and mahamudra should be understood from what is shown elsewhere. The ritual of the body image should also be understood here in the same way. Briefly, the image of the Blessed One victorious over the three worlds should be drawn. Or, the body image should be drawn in the form of a mandala, offered with flowers and so on, and after reciting a million times before it, all activities should be done. As it is said, in this way, camphor and so on are applied to new cotton cloth, and twenty-one mantras are recited one hundred and eight times. Finally, the one who abides in fasting, the cloth two and a half cubits wide is soaked to two cubits long, and the painter is made to abide in fasting, and offered with offerings of offerings, and drawn, that is, as it is. The meaning of "as it is" is like the deity mentioned before. That is explained in three ways like this. One way is that the Blessed One Shakyamuni is drawn in the center according to the ritual mentioned above, and on his right is drawn the Blessed One Vajrapani, and on the left is drawn the Victorious Crown. Below that, in the center, is drawn the Wheel-Turning King, on the right is drawn the Victorious One, and on the left is drawn the Heap of Glory. Below that, in the center, is drawn the White Umbrella, on the right is drawn the Completely Scattered, and on the left is drawn the Completely Destroying. On the two upper sides are drawn the Incense Mother and the Flower Mother, and on the two lower sides are drawn the Light Mother and the Perfume Mother. All these deities should be drawn with their respective hand gestures and body colors. Below that are drawn rivers, birds, fish, frogs, flowers, and trees, and so on. Below that are drawn flowers, incense, lamps, perfumes, food, whisks, garlands, vases, and mirrors, and so on. On its edge, the practitioner joins his palms and faces upwards.
