The thumb of the right hand is placed between the index finger and the little finger, and held at the heart; this should be known when beginning all practices. Fully extending the palm, the thumb and little finger are brought together, and the remaining fingers are stretched out; this is the mudra of the vow of the lotus family. That is, joining the palms, the two thumbs and two little fingers, the tips of the four fingers touching and joining, making the center like the heart of a lotus, and the remaining fingers stretched out like lotus petals, held below the collarbone. This should be known when proclaiming the sacred Dharma. To this, some may ask, why is it called a vow? This is because, when the Sugatas first attained perfect enlightenment, in order to fully purify the body, speech, and mind of all sentient beings and attain perfect Buddhahood, they made a vow and formed the great mudra of the vow. In order to fully purify the body, speech, and mind of sentient beings, the Sugatas cultivate the seeds that arise from faith with the ritual of the true vow, therefore it is called the mudra of the vow. In the vajra-clenched mudra, the two middle fingers are joined together like a vajra, and the thumb and little finger are stretched out; this is the mudra of Vajrapani. That is, the bellies of the two middle fingers are joined together and raised, and the thumb and little finger are each stretched out into a five-finger shape. This should be known when offering to the worldly mandala. Similarly, the thumb and little finger are also like that, and the two index fingers and middle fingers are bent into a lotus shape; this is the mudra of the king who completely purifies all the lower realms. Similarly, it should be connected to "in all vajra-clenched mudras." The thumb and little finger are like Vajrapani, and the middle finger is also like that; the tips of the index finger and middle finger touch, making the shape of lotus petals. This should be known when reciting the root mantra of the Tathagata. Similarly, the index finger and middle finger are made into the shape of a jewel; this is the mudra of empowerment. That is, the middle finger and little finger are as before, and the index finger and

The tips of the ring fingers are touching but the knuckles are not bent. This should be understood during the Sarvavid empowerment. The little finger and thumb are joined separately and the remaining fingers are straightened, which is the mudra for burning all sins. The four thumbs and little fingers are joined to each other, and the other fingers are crossed with each other to look like rays of light. This should be understood when reciting the mantras of the three lower realms. The left hand is similarly turned and done, which is the mudra for all actions. The thumb and little finger of the left hand are joined together, and the three fingers are straightened. It is turned from right to left. This should be done in all occasions such as offerings, and grasped with the right hand. The palms are held up and scattered upwards is the incense mudra. Then scattering from below upwards is the flower mudra. From that, the two thumbs are held up and held in front is the lamp mudra. From that, making it like a conch shell is the perfume mudra, like this, the thumb and little finger are joined together, and the rest are held with just the tips touching, making it like an incense burner. From that, the fingers are stretched out and scattered from below upwards like flowers. This is the flower samaya mudra. Clenching the vajra fist, the two thumbs are raised. Holding it in front is the lamp mudra. Knowing it to be like a conch shell, the two hands cross the four fingers of the ring finger and little finger, dry them, join the two middle fingers to the abdomen and stretch them out, and the two thumbs join the tips of the stretched fingers with the tips of the two bent index fingers. These are the completely connected vows. From that, fully stretching and holding is the torma mudra. From that, the two middle fingers are bent inward. The Argha mudra is when the fingers are joined separately, separated and stretched out, which should be understood when throwing the torma. Then the faces of the index finger, ring finger, and little finger are joined and the tips are joined. The two thumbs rest on the knuckles of the index finger, and the two middle fingers are bent and joined to the two pads of the thumb. This is to be understood when offering Argha. Vajra
