The thoroughly established characteristic of all dharmas, that is called the ultimate truth of no self-nature. Why is that? The selflessness of all dharmas is the ultimate truth, and because it is without self-nature, it is called the ultimate truth of no self-nature. Like a flower in the sky, that is the characteristic of no self-nature. Like an illusion, that is the arising of no self-nature. Like space, which is only the no self-nature of form and pervades everything, so too is the ultimate truth of no self-nature, because it is distinguished by the selflessness of dharmas and pervades everything. Not only by scripture, but also by reasoning, the unborn should be shown. If its own nature is not existent, that is not a thing. The things of cause and effect are not existent, why is that? If the things of cause and effect are not existent, how is its arising? Like the son of a barren woman, etc. Therefore, the self-nature of all things is not existent. Because it does not possess any of the characteristics of one and many, etc. Thus, the noble Nagarjuna said: "One and many, both, neither, none exist. Without many, there is no one, non-existence is also not existent." If so, how did the Bhagavan teach dependent origination? It is true, realizing the unborn is what is taught as dependent origination. Thus it is said: "Saying arising from conditions and non-arising, is like the very nature of space." Again it is said: "What is dependent origination, its own nature is unborn. What has an unborn own nature, what should its arising be called? Things do not arise from themselves, nor from others, nor from both. Non-existence and non-non-existence cannot be established, what is its arising?" In the scriptures it is also said: "Whatever arises from conditions, that is unborn. It has no nature of arising. Whatever depends on conditions, that is said to be emptiness. Whoever sees emptiness, that is mindful." Thus it is said. If again there is this saying: "Thus, the nature of the promised fruit and cause should be definitely examined. In the nature of the cause..."

If a result is produced from a cause, is it produced from a cause that has become the nature of the result, or from something that has become the nature of something else, or from both, or from neither? There are these four distinctions. Among them, it is impossible to produce from a cause that has become the nature of the result, because the nature of the result that produces the result is the nature of the cause and the result itself. Therefore, such an established nature, that is, from a cause that has become the nature of the result, will not produce the result of its own nature, because there is no result. The action of obtaining one's own meaning is also the result of the arising of things. Since both are established, if it arises from this, it will lead to endless arising, becoming endless. Therefore, arising itself does not have the power to arise again as its own nature. As stated by Chandrakirti: Therefore, for beneficial things, there are no qualities at all, to arise again is to arise, such a reason is not reasonable. Thus. Arising from others is also without result, because the so-called other is also spoken of in relation to two things. And the second thing is the result, which does not exist when the cause exists, and when it exists, the cause also does not exist. Then, in relation to what is it truly acknowledged as other? Just as in relation to a cow's horn or a rabbit's horn, the otherness of a horse's horn does not exist. The cause of manifest desire, such as the eye, etc., will also not produce the result of manifest desire, such as the consciousness of the eye, etc., because it has become something different from the producer, just like the non-manifest desire of the Samkhya. It is said: Before one's own nature has arisen, from what does one desire another? Like a cow's horn or a human horn, thus a horse's horn should not be desired. Other conditions also do not truly cause the eye consciousness to be produced by the eye, etc., because it has become other, like the Samkhya, etc. It is also unreasonable to arise from both, because the nature of different and non-different are contradictory qualities, so they cannot be one.
