From the Abhidharmakośa: The first dhyāna has five: investigation, analysis, joy, happiness, and samādhi. The second has five branches: superior faith and joy, etc. The third has five: equanimity, mindfulness, vigilance, happiness, and abiding. The fourth has four: mindfulness, equanimity, neither happiness nor suffering, and samādhi. Thus it is said. Because it teaches and directly realizes that, it is known as knowing all the branches of dhyāna. Is that all? It is said: No. It is said: the family of samādhi, etc. The samādhis are like the Heroic Progress and the Treasury of Space, etc. The family of those is the root. The lineage of samādhi is the cause. The nature of the interrelation of samādhis is the family and lineage of samādhis. Knowing that, one knows the family and lineage of samādhi. Alternatively, the family of samādhi is the supreme samādhi. Because it arises and abides from that, it is the lineage, the wisdom of prajñāpāramitā. Knowing that, it is explained as such. It is also said that it is the nature of samādhi. The samādhi is the body of the nature of mind, that is the body of samādhi. That body is supreme because it has the power to go unimpeded, that is, it becomes the main thing. That is the supreme body, the body of samādhi is also this and supreme, so the words are connected. Or, the body of samādhi is the collection of samādhis, the nature of all mandalas. Because it is the nature of all samādhis, the Bhagavan is said to be the body of samādhi. That is also this and the supreme body, so the meaning is gathered as before. The saṃbhogakāya is spoken of as the saṃbhogakāya, etc. The saṃbhogakāya of all the tathāgatas, blazing with marks and signs, beautifies the earth, so it is the king of all saṃbhogakāyas. The nirmāṇakāya is also spoken of as the nirmāṇakāya, etc. Here too, all sounds should be followed. Therefore it is said: Buddhas, etc. The Buddhas are like Vajradhara, etc. The lineage of nirmāṇakāya is

Because they hold each other, they are the holders of the lineage of the Buddha's manifestations. In an instant, in the boundless and limitless worlds, the great lord who accomplishes the benefit of beings through immeasurable manifestations is proclaimed. The so-called "ten directions" and so on, that is, in each of the ten directions, with various and diverse manifestations benefiting sentient beings, is to spread various manifestations in the ten directions. Therefore, this is the one who truly accomplishes the benefit of sentient beings. To proclaim this meaning, there are "gods" and so on. In some places, it is the gods; in some places, it is the god of gods; in some places, it is the king of gods, Indra; in other places, it is the lord of the Tushita heaven, the king of gods. The lords of the Asuras include Svara and others. The immortal lord is the king of gods here, the one without limits. The teacher of the gods is Jupiter. The destroyer is the assembly of fierce gods. The destroyer lord is the fierce one. Thus, with various manifestations accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings, this is extensively explained in the Sutra of the Collection of Righteous Dharma. Thus, accomplishing the benefit of all, although busy, because they do not possess the faults of the place of samsara, they have transcended the solitude of existence and non-existence. The sole teacher and so on are easy to understand. Wisdom itself is a sword, a bow and arrow, whichever it is, it is proclaimed as such. Proclaiming its result: there are "afflictions" and so on. The king of ignorance, surrounded by the army of afflictions and numerous harms, is the battlefield; having destroyed that and manifested in all ways, it is called "eliminating the battlefield of afflictions and ignorance." Therefore, the other, external demons become enemies, or because they are enemies of demons, they are called demon enemies, proclaiming the one who has obtained victory in all ways, there are "demon enemies" and so on, easy to understand. Therefore, having been liberated from the army of demons and attained the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, they are the perfect Buddhas. They are the guides of the world, therefore they are the guides. They are the ones to whom sentient beings such as humans and gods should prostrate, they are the supremely excellent Bhagavan, easy to understand. Thus, the perfect Buddha, the teacher of sentient beings, descends without beginning for the benefit of sentient beings, this is what is proclaimed:
