Because it is said that they will remain for a kalpa or more than a kalpa. Moreover, (the Buddha) does not exhaust the fruit of the karma of the power of life, because in many kalpas, they have become accustomed to abstaining from killing, and with countless methods, they have regarded the perfection of generosity as supreme, and it truly arises from teaching and accumulation (the fruit of the karma of the power of life). Here, the collection of cause and effect is that from the most excellent cause arises the most excellent effect, and from the non-excellent arises the non-excellent, otherwise it is impossible for an effect that is incompatible with that effect to arise from the excellent and non-excellent causes, so it is impossible for benefit to turn into harm, because it does not depend on the distinctions that belong to it. For the teacher, even the cause of survival has no fault, and they have already practiced avoiding killing others, etc. But why do they not remain for a hundred years? Because the fruit of all these is omniscience itself, so it is said that the fruit of long life is manifestly produced, and the perfections of abstaining from killing, etc., are said to have the fruit of long life as the same kind and unmixed. Whichever is manifestly shown as the cause of whichever, if the conditions are fully assembled and gathered, then it will produce that, and there is no fault in becoming the cause of other (effects), but if it is not so, then it would become the fault of not producing that. However, from being accustomed to the suchness of all dharmas themselves, they become omniscient, and merit is consistent with the arising of that particular basis of accumulation. Therefore, to say that the Bhagavan passes into nirvana because merit is completely exhausted is just a false assumption. If it is thought that the Tathagata passes into nirvana because there are no sentient beings to be tamed, this is correct, then it needs to be examined here: Is it that there are no sentient beings to be tamed by the Buddha's body? Or are there no sentient beings to be tamed by other forms either? If according to the former, then since it is possible to tame beings by appearing as Indra, etc., why do they not remain in that form? Because they are under the control of compassion

In order to benefit those who have faith, they also abide in other forms. For example, the Blessed One abides in the form of a universal monarch, and there is no reason why beings cannot be tamed by the forms of Indra and others. Moreover, it would be absurd to say that Indra and others cannot work for the benefit of others. Alternatively, even if there are no beings to be tamed by the Buddha's body in one world, why does he pass into complete nirvana in this world, when there is the possibility of being tamed by him in countless other worlds? If it is said that there are no such beings in other worlds either, then this reason does not hold here, because it has never been said anywhere that there are no sentient beings to be tamed by the manifestation of the Buddha's body in all the worlds. Alternatively, since there are no definite sentient beings, why do those who engage in benefiting others not pass into complete nirvana? If it is thought that they will pass into complete nirvana, then this itself cannot be established, because in one world, for the sentient beings to be tamed by the manifestation of the Buddha's body, by showing the nearness of nirvana, those beings who are to be tamed are taken care of. Although he shows complete nirvana, in other places, birth, perfect enlightenment, turning the wheel of Dharma, etc., are shown to be complete. Because this time is as it is said: The Buddha will never enter nirvana, nor will the Dharma decline, in order to ripen sentient beings, he shows the appearance of nirvana. Thus it is said. Alternatively, if the Great Hero were to abide as long as samsara exists, would they appear gradually or simultaneously in the world? Because the Blessed One and other Tathagatas all possess unobstructed wisdom, wherever only one Tathagata performs the deeds of a Buddha, there, in the same world where he was born, one Tathagata with unobstructed wisdom tames all those to be tamed by the Buddha throughout the entire cycle of existence, then the second Tathagata would be meaningless.
