I am the Bodhi of enlightenment and self-enlightenment. Therefore, although it is called "exhaustion of outflows," it is the absence of outflows as spoken of in the seven hundred, but not the exhaustion of all afflictions like an Arhat. How is this known? Because there is no affliction and no close object of focus, all dharmas are exhausted from the beginning. Because one perceives samsara and nirvana as equal, abandoning and forsaking attachment, which is characterized by clinging, is liberation from attachment. How are the senses tamed? It is not by restraining the senses like the Hearers and others that the senses are tamed. However, by manifesting the five faculties of faith and so forth, the senses are tamed. The five faculties are the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, and the faculty of wisdom. What is the faculty of faith? It is the faith with which one has faith in the four dharmas. What are the four? They are as follows: having faith in the correct view of the world that is practiced in samsara, and relying on the ripening of karma. Whatever virtuous or sinful action, whatever action is done, one will experience the corresponding ripening, thinking that even for the sake of life, one will not do sinful actions. Having faith in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, and having entered into that conduct, one does not generate desire for other vehicles. Having faith in all dharmas, in the ultimate truth, the profound meaning of dependent arising, selflessness, absence of sentient beings, absence of life, absence of nourishment, absence of person, discrimination, emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. Not making all views into latent habits. Having faith in all the Buddha's dharmas, such as powers and fearlessness. Because of faith, one is free from doubt, free from hesitation, and thus truly accomplishes the Buddha's dharma. This is called the faculty of faith. What is the faculty of diligence? Whatever dharmas are believed in by the faculty of faith, those dharmas are truly accomplished by the faculty of diligence. This is called the faculty of diligence. What is the faculty of mindfulness?

Those dharmas that are truly accomplished through the power of diligence, which do not allow the power of mindfulness to decline, are called the power of mindfulness. What is the power of concentration? The dharmas that the power of mindfulness does not allow to decline, the power of concentration makes them one-pointed. This is called the power of concentration. What is the power of wisdom? The dharmas that the power of concentration makes one-pointed, the power of wisdom thoroughly discerns them. That is, knowing which dharmas do not perish depending on other conditions, and knowing them individually, this is called the power of wisdom. Thus, these five powers accompany each other and are interconnected, and they perfect all the Buddha's teachings. They also establish the place of prophecy. Like the son of Venerable Sharadvati, for example, externalists with the five supernormal powers do not give prophecies to beings who have entered the womb until their faculties and the mother's faculties have manifested and been accomplished. Similarly, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, do not give prophecies of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment to Bodhisattvas until they are in accordance with these transcendental faculties. These are the five powers of the Bodhisattva. Thus, the five powers are subdued and can be freely used, acting as one pleases, hence they are called the subdued powers. By gaining bliss, one obtains fearlessness. It is said that the sound of bliss and the sound of fearlessness also refer to nirvana. Therefore, it is said to be nirvana. Therefore, saying that an Arhat who has attained nirvana is the conventional truth. The ultimate truth is that one obtains bliss by being free from the afflictions of close attachment and all evil destinies. Obtaining fearlessness is also said to be abiding in the equality of all dharmas. Deterioration, unhappiness, and fear, etc., when equality is obtained, these two do not exist, hence it is called peaceful, like a lamp going out, nirvana is also said to be nirvana without remainder, and Bodhisattvas also think in this way.
