It has rockiness. There is no distinction of substance, quality, and action among them. Their objects are substance, quality, and action. Non-objects are generality, particularity, and aggregation. Whatever has these two objects and direct perception, etc., is called that. The view of accomplishment is guided by the teachings of astrology, which is seen by the accomplished ones. The prophecies of the sages are related to clairvoyance, such as saying, "My brother will come tomorrow." Because it is said that the sages possess it, it is said to be of the sages. Doubt is hesitation. Inversion is wrong knowledge. What should not be believed is uncertainty. Seeing in the first dream is a dream. Dreaming a dream within a dream is a dream within a dream, which the heretic without ears said to amaze women and Jews. This is just an explanation of difficult words, the rest is easy to understand. The so-called "measuring" is also measured in this way: Is the cause of the knowledge of form, sound, taste, smell, and touch of Devadatta one or many? Because I say "I saw, I heard," etc., the author is connected as one. One can also become the cause of many, such as when a dancer's eyebrow moves, it simultaneously generates multiple knowledge. Also, for example, at the time of work, various knowledge of various authors arises from one cause. Similarly, here too, because the cause of the knowledge of various objects is one, it will be combined into one, and the only cause is what is called "I." Similarly, other combinations are the same, the word "I" is a word different from the collection of body, senses, mind, intellect, and feeling, and because it is different from the most famous names, it is the same word, like a pot. Similarly, the feeling of being alive is not selfless, because without life it would turn to ashes, like a pot. Having thus spoken of the measure of existence.

English

In order to demonstrate the valid cognitions of permanence and pervasiveness, Vimalakirti says: When I arise from my mother's womb, my first consciousness is a feeler and a knower. Because my consciousness exists at other times as well, and because it is my consciousness, it is initially the same as my consciousness. Therefore, it is permanent. For pervasiveness, the same method is used to measure it. Even though earth, water, fire, wind, and that which becomes the object of inverted conceptualization are located very far away, they are connected to my self, because they possess form, possess power, are other, are not other, are completely intermingled, and exist in rain. Because they are similar to my body and so forth, one should establish their existence, permanence, and pervasiveness. Although it has been determined that they are permanent and pervasive, there is no contradiction in being connected with agents, enjoyers, birth, death, life, harm, and so forth. Among these, knowing, wanting to act, effort, and being united with the self are the agent. The feeling and collection of pleasure and pain are the enjoyer. Among these, the knowledge of both pleasure and pain is enjoyment, and its union with the self is the enjoyer. Birth is association with a special, previously non-existent thing such as body, senses, intelligence, and feelings. Separation from the previous thing is death. The self with a body, connected with mind, and acting in dependence on non-dharma is harm. Because it kills the agent who is the basis of the fruit, it is harm. The meaning here is: Because it kills the senses, which are the agents of both the body and the object, which are the basis of the fruit, in order to correctly seek the happiness and so forth of sentient beings who possess uninterrupted dharma, it is therefore established as harm. Here, one should answer: Whatever are the six combined words such as existence, it cannot be established that they are the objects of direct perception and so forth, because substances, qualities, actions, universals, particulars, and combinations are not apprehended by direct perception and so forth.

And the holders, such as the eye, are determined to be in their respective objects. That is, the object of the eye is only form, not taste, etc., because the other senses would become fruitless. Likewise, the ear only holds sound, not form, etc. Likewise, the other senses are also determined to hold their respective objects. From what does one hold substances, etc., that are different from form, etc.? If it is said to be established by inference, that must also be preceded by direct perception; if there is no direct perception, how can one enter? If it is said that my consciousness is known by a sentient being different from my body, then this is establishing what has already been established, because you consider it to be the consciousness of the omniscient, the subdued, the yogis, etc., who are different from the body. Like the consciousness of another person, what is said as an example of the same dharma is also an incomplete proposition, because all consciousness is of the nature of self-awareness. According to the tenet that is known by another consciousness, it is not consciousness because there is no ultimate abiding. Moreover, in whose doctrine are all of these only consciousness, and is the ultimate of self-awareness, so from the point of view that there is nothing else apart from that, this fault of establishing what has already been established is extremely clear. Likewise, for other views such as having birth, etc., the fault of establishing what has already been established should be stated. The so-called illuminator, for the consciousness that clearly combines with the form of Devadatta, etc., I have seen, I have heard, etc., from this it is known that the author is the same, and it is said that the one who can combine in this way is me, but this is also unreasonable, because it has not been seen and it is impossible for the permanent, pervasive, and one to combine. The permanent, pervasive author, enjoyer, abandoner, etc., because there is no following and non-following, it is only a fabrication, like the son of a barren woman. Thus, whose connection
