Therefore, here it should be examined following valid cognition and scripture. If the scripture says that consciousness is formless, invisible, unimpeded, and without abiding, then how should one contemplate it appearing as blue, dense, coarse, and other forms in the external world? It is true that consciousness does not exist in blue and so on, but due to the power of the habitual tendencies of ignorance, it appears as blue in the external world. As it is said, the nature of mind is naturally luminous, and defilements come suddenly. Similarly, because the mind is disturbed by habitual tendencies, it appears as various forms. If it is said like that, then here it needs to be examined, what is one's own habitual tendency? Is mind itself the habitual tendency? Or is there something else different from mind? If mind itself is the habitual tendency, then the past has ceased, the future has not come, and the present arising does not abide, therefore it is impossible to exist simultaneously, because it has been admitted as momentary. Therefore, all the abiders here, whether destroyed or not destroyed, will be destroyed, just as all abiders will be destroyed, therefore there is no certainty for the continuum. If it is said that the consciousness that previously became the cause generates a power that is in accordance with itself, and therefore the abider of the result also still exists in its own nature, then the moment of the consciousness of the cause does not produce the result, so how can it generate power when it does not exist? Is this power the same as or different from consciousness? If it is the same, then at that time consciousness produces consciousness, and there is either no following for consciousness, or there is no second follower, because there is no place and no abider. If it is different, then being different from consciousness will become matter, thereby losing the statement of being merely consciousness. Similarly, there is also this fault for the aspect that is different from habitual tendencies, one cannot know the respective causes, and one cannot know which is the cause and which is the result among the phenomena that exist in one moment. Therefore, due to the power of habitual tendencies, consciousness appears as forms such as blue.

Gyāba is a nationality. In that case, what is the mind like when it is completely free from all habitual tendencies? If it is said that it is extremely pure merely as a thought, then from where do the appearances of blue, etc., come at that time? It is not from the outside either, because it is without appearance. It is not from the mind either, because it is also of the nature of being without appearance. All of these are illusions of ignorance, so is it conventional truth? If it is determined by distinguishing consciousness and the nature different from it, it will be completely destroyed like habitual tendencies. Therefore, since there is no external object, there is nothing to be grasped. Since there is no object to be grasped, and it is separate from the consciousness of the eye, etc., which grasps it, there is also no grasper. Since there is no duality, it is established as being called non-duality. That is, in the Twenty-five Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, Subhuti asks: Subhuti, what is the object of all-knowingness? What is the faculty? What is the aspect? What is the characteristic? Subhuti answers: The object of all-knowingness is non-existence. The faculty is mindfulness. The aspect is peace. The characteristic is without characteristic. Subhuti asks: What is existence? What is non-existence? Subhuti answers: The two are existence. Non-duality is non-existence. Subhuti, the two refer to the eye and form, the ear and sound, and so on, up to the mind and dharmas are the two. The internal self is empty of the nature of the internal self, and the external dharmas are empty of the nature of the external dharmas. Why is that? Because the eye is empty of the nature of the eye, and emptiness is not other, because its nature is it. Similarly, form is empty of the nature of form, and so on, until the mind and dharmas are empty of the nature of the mind and dharmas, it should be widely combined. Does nothing at all exist? Who said, "Nothing at all exists"? Who also said, "Everything exists"? All things.
