I cannot understand, how can one understand through meaning? Or, if the knowledge of seeing the unseen arises, then what can be seen to understand the state of meaning? Because there is no basis, it does not exist in all states. Or, if one argues for the unseen in the second way, then it will become arguing for a donkey's horn from a rabbit's horn. If one argues from the aspect of inference that understands through meaning, because there is no connection, the very arising of understanding through meaning does not exist. One cannot argue for consciousness from understanding through meaning, nor can one accomplish understanding through meaning from the reasoning of another's consciousness. From the aspect of knowing from both, one will also fall into the faults spoken of in both aspects, therefore it is unreasonable because it contradicts the self-nature of possessing both. It is unreasonable for a consciousness without form to know things, and a consciousness with form cannot grasp things either, because form also will arise from the delusion of consciousness. Or, deception and non-deception are the distinctions between delusion and other, because there is also delusion in dreams, therefore there is no truth in deception, and there is no falsehood in non-deception, so there is no discrimination of meaning in dreams either, and everything will become like in dreams. For the memory and forgetting, etc., that are said to be non-worldly and inverted, also with this way of knowing, everything will become non-worldly, so it should not be examined. The form that abides in consciousness is not a definite quantity that is completely related to external objects, but only different discriminations are the basis here. The separately determined object, time, and form, because there is no cause, appearance will not arise, and this is also unreasonable, because it can arise from mere habits. Therefore, it arises from the cause of internal mere habits, so it is merely appearance, like the appearance of dreams, illusions, and gandharva cities. Those who speak of mere consciousness, because there is no external object apart from that, therefore mere consciousness is non-dual, but non-duality is not non-duality.
