Because of the power of the mind being mastered, it is called "the great possessor of the ten powers." In order to show the self-nature of the Dharma, it is said, "Beginningless, without elaboration, self; Suchness self, pure self." Because this has no beginning, it is beginningless. If it is said that there is a cause before the beginning, then it should not be called beginningless, because nothing arises from other than the cause. Or, if someone asks, is this said to negate the mind as truly existent? If everything becomes beginningless, then who will be considered superior? Here, the intention of the Blessed One is this: it is not to negate the cause, nor is it to negate the mind as truly existent. Nevertheless, what was initially hidden and later became completely pure is called the beginning, but because it is naturally pure, there is no beginning. Even if the Tathagatas appear, or if the Tathagatas do not appear, the Dharma-nature of the Dharmas is abiding. In the way of the abiding of Dharmas, Suchness, and the true limit, it is said to be beginningless. Therefore, it is said in this way, "Without elaboration, self." Elaboration refers to cause, effect, grasper, grasped, self, and what belongs to self, up to the point of worldly conventions, and being free from inner conceptualization, that is the nature of purity because it is free from all faults. When one transforms from that nature and becomes like that, then it is the Suchness self. Or, the previous cause accomplishes the later, from beginningless to without elaboration. Because it is without elaboration, it is Suchness. Because it is Suchness, it is the nature of purity. Or, conversely, because of the purity of purity, it is the Suchness self. Because the Suchness is pure, it is without elaboration. Because it is without elaboration, it is beginningless. This is distinguished by the difference of meaning according to the thoughts of those to be tamed, not by names. In order to show the meaning of what was said after truly understanding the meaning, (it says) "Speaking truthfully and not changing words, acting as spoken, showing non-duality and non-duality, at the true edge...

Abiding. It is said in this way. The state of possessing the nature of reality, truth, and non-perverted Dharma, that is what it means to speak truthfully. Because it is made to abide in accordance with what is said, therefore the words do not change. Because there are no words that deceive others, it is said that the words do not change. Because the meaning of the vow is fulfilled, therefore, as it is said, so it is done. It is said in this way. Because of vowing to attain enlightenment for the benefit of beings, therefore that vow is fulfilled. Or, to others, as much as one teaches the Dharma endowed with generosity and discipline, so too does one diligently and earnestly engage in generosity and so forth, therefore, as it is said, so it is done. It is said in this way. Non-duality and teaching non-duality. It is said in this way. Duality refers to the object and the subject, as well as consciousness and the object of consciousness, and from the inner eye and so forth to the outer form and so forth, up to the mind and Dharma. Because there are no such permanent dualities, it is non-dual. How is it non-dual? That is, the form to be apprehended by the eye, and the condition of the eye's cause, will give rise to eye consciousness. Similarly, up to the condition of mind and Dharma, mind consciousness will arise. Now, if form and so forth are regarded as the objects of the eye and so forth, then is it the nature of atoms? Or is it the nature of having parts? It should be examined. If it is an atom, then is it assembled? Or does it reside in a distant place? Or does it exist without interval, becoming the cause of consciousness? If it is in a state of assembly, then is it assembled by all of itself? Or is it assembled by one part? If it is assembled by all of itself, then it will become without parts, and all beings will become like atoms. If it is assembled by one part, then even so it will become having parts, and because it has parts, it will fall away from the vow, and the atom itself will not be established, because it has parts, like a pot. Those who dwell far away are also not objects because they have passed beyond the realm of the senses.
