So, when should a Bodhisattva be equanimous, and when should they not be? The Buddha, the Bhagavan, did not say to be equanimous towards all Bodhisattvas. Why is that? Because great Bodhisattvas should always diligently and earnestly seek the virtuous Dharma of themselves, the weak, and others. Therefore, they should be equanimous at appropriate and inappropriate times. So, what is appropriate and inappropriate equanimity? To be equanimous towards those who are not vessels, and towards sentient beings who do not wish to listen; to be equanimous towards things that are not obtained, are disparaged, are unpopular, and are suffering; to be equanimous towards sentient beings who have entered the faultless Hearer's Vehicle; at the time of generosity, to be equanimous towards suppressing discipline; at the time of discipline, to be equanimous towards suppressing generosity; at the time of patience, to be equanimous towards suppressing diligence; at the time of diligence, to be equanimous towards suppressing meditation; at the time of meditation, to be equanimous towards suppressing attachment to generosity; at the time of wisdom, to be equanimous towards focusing on the other five perfections. This is called being equanimous at appropriate and inappropriate times. Therefore, these three kinds of equanimity should be regarded as great means, because they are the cause of means for the benefit of various sentient beings, so they are called "great means." Therefore, the Bhagavan should be called "possessing great means." Precisely because of this, he is a great sage, because he is skilled in and has accomplished the actions of means. Here, the order is like this: great love will surely connect all sentient beings with benefit. Great compassion will settle them in the bliss of awareness, comprehended inwardly. Great joy will settle them in great joy. Great equanimity will settle them in the equality of the Dharmakaya, free from attachment and anger. Therefore, do not doubt that what is said here contradicts the words. Alternatively, the order of the secret mantra dog-method also explains "great benefactor" and so on in other ways. Among them, "great benefactor" refers to the Bodhi of the arising of supreme bliss.

That which has the nature of the flow of the water of compassion is the great two-donor, and its owner is the chief of the great donors. Moreover, the noble Manjushri, with his gentle and pleasing form, perfectly fulfills the manifest desires of all beings, and therefore becomes the owner of the form of the charming goddess in the wheel of all mandalas belonging to all realms of the world. Because the Tirthika Ishvara said, "Charm is the perfection of generosity." Similarly, "The branch of enlightenment gives fruit, the garland is the perfection of morality." Therefore, adorned with a garland of flowers with branches of enlightenment, it becomes cool, and having a body that gathers the limbs of the perfection of morality, it is called "The Supreme Holder of Great Morality." Whoever has the great morality that goes everywhere is the great holder of morality, and because he holds it, he is called the great holder of morality. Because he abides in the form of the lord of all, he is the supreme. Great patience is the nature of the goddess Vajra-giti. Because of rejoicing in the peaceful Dharma, it is said, "The singer is the perfection of patience." Because he holds this patience, he is called the holder of great patience. Because his nature is immovable, he is steadfast. Whatever great diligence arises is great diligence, the form of the goddess Vajra-nritya. Therefore, it is endowed with supreme asceticism, and is called "Great Diligence Asceticism." Because there is no fault in offering to the Buddhas, it is said, "The dancer is the perfection of diligence." As the Tathagata said, so it is, not arbitrarily conjectured. Whoever has great meditation is great meditation, and together with them abides in the samadhi of great meditation, therefore it is called "Abiding in the Samadhi of Great Meditation." Because the Buddha himself is the cause of the fruit, it is said, "The flower is the perfection of meditation." Therefore, it is shown to be the lord of the Vajra-puspa-ma. Whoever has great wisdom is great wisdom, the goddess Vajra-dhupa-ma...
