No one has it except for the Bodhisattvas who abide in the tenth bhumi. The giving of Dharma accomplishes the power of miracles. No one has that power except for the Tathagata and the Bodhisattvas who abide in the tenth bhumi. Furthermore, the giving of material things causes complete maturation. The giving of Dharma causes differentiation. Furthermore, the giving of material things accumulates. The giving of Dharma liberates. Furthermore, the giving of material things completely gives away wealth. The giving of Dharma gives away everything. Furthermore, the giving of material things accomplishes liberation from the obscurations of afflictions. The giving of Dharma accomplishes liberation from the obscurations of knowledge. Furthermore, the term "giving" is a euphemism for abandoning complete imputation. For example, abandoning complete imputation is the most excellent of all givings. Why? Because the Bodhisattva who has abandoned complete imputation is called pure. The speaker asks: Son of good family, what is the euphemism for this term "complete imputation"? The speaker replies: Son of good family, this term "complete imputation" is not something that is truly existent, but a euphemism for something fabricated from non-existence. The speaker asks: How is it that it is not truly existent and is fabricated from non-existence? The speaker replies: For example, when one thinks like this: "I am attached, I am jealous, I am deluded, I am afflicted, I am pure, I am bound, I am liberated, I am in samsara, I am completely extinguished," all such fabrications are not truly existent, but are completely imputed from non-existence. Why is that? Because all of these are merely causes and conditions. There is no self or belonging to self in this, no sentient being, no life, no person, no one born of power, no purusha. Those causes and conditions are also empty of inherent existence, inherently peaceful, separated from mind, intellect, and consciousness, unthinking, non-imputing, not completely afflicted, not completely purified, not samsara, and not completely extinguished. Therefore, a Bodhisattva does not fabricate on something that does not exist, and

Giving up attachments is called perfect giving. When those dharmas are remembered, that is remembering that giving. Furthermore, sons of good family, the giving of Bodhisattvas is of three kinds: What is giving? What is great giving? What is supreme giving? What is the giving of Bodhisattvas? It is like this: Giving food and drink, bedding, clothing, ghee, incense, garlands, perfume, powder, clothes, umbrellas, banners, flags, chariots, ornaments, etc., for food and desires. Except for giving what harms sentient beings and causes stinginess, there is nothing that Bodhisattvas do not give to sentient beings. This is called the giving of Bodhisattvas. What is the great giving of Bodhisattvas? Here, Bodhisattvas perfect their giving and perform great giving. For example, giving up wives, sons, daughters, agreeable male servants, female servants, workers, those who live on wages, houses, and kingdoms is called the great giving of Bodhisattvas. What is the supreme giving of Bodhisattvas? Here, Bodhisattvas perfect their giving and great giving and perform supreme giving. For example, giving up hands, feet, ears, noses, flesh, bones, skin, eyes, tongues, skulls, legs, etc. This is called the supreme giving of Bodhisattvas. When a Bodhisattva remembers those giving, great giving, and supreme giving, and thinks, "I will also perfect those memories," that is called remembering their giving. This is called the mindfulness of remembering the giving of a Bodhisattva. What is the mindfulness of remembering the gods of a Bodhisattva? Here, a Bodhisattva remembers the pure gods, Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas,

I remember those perfectly enlightened Buddhas. Thus remembering them, remembering their practice, qualities, birth, enjoyment, conduct, creation, supreme attainment, and perfect accomplishment, this is called the close placement of mindfulness of remembrance. I also remember those other gods. Thus remembering them: these gods are born from the fruit of virtuous actions. Those virtuous actions are like this: they are those who turn away from the path of the ten non-virtuous actions. Among them, those gods who possess various colors, possess happiness, and have satisfied senses, all of these are the maturation of the path of the ten virtuous actions. The Bodhisattva thinks in this way, rejoices in the happiness of the gods, and in order to benefit all sentient beings, completely dedicates it to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. He also wishes that the happiness of the gods becomes that of all sentient beings. Because he wishes happiness to become that of all sentient beings, in order to perfectly accomplish the roots of virtue, he initiates great diligence. He generates great compassion for sentient beings born in the lower realms, and thinks in this way: I will guide all sentient beings in such a way that they will be born in the realm of the gods. All sentient beings who have become gods will attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. By causing sentient beings to obtain the happiness of the gods, and afterwards not degenerating, after becoming happy, like this, causing sentient beings to enter the peaceful happiness of the Tathagata, the Bodhisattva thinks in this way, guiding sentient beings to do these things, this is called the Bodhisattva's close placement of mindfulness of remembering the gods. Sons of the lineage, these are the ten close placements of mindfulness of the Bodhisattvas. Whoever possesses these, He is the one who holds great mindfulness. It is called like that. Because the nature of remembrance is emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, and the aspect of remembrance of self-luminous nature, becoming the possessor of hundreds of thousands of samadhis such as courageous conduct, Therefore, the four mindfulnesses are the king of meditation. It is called like that. Limbs of enlightenment, flowers, incense, are also like that.
