Sangha. For the sake of the sphere of mindfulness, the Sangha of those who possess mindfulness. For the sake of the sphere of perfect abandonment, the Sangha of those who have initiated diligence. For the sake of the sphere of miraculous feet, the Sangha of those who are without weariness. For the sake of the sphere of faculties, the Sangha of those who have extinguished the fire. For the sake of the sphere of powers, the Sangha of those who have stirred up the thorns. For the sake of the sphere of the limbs of enlightenment, the Sangha of those who are without obscurations. For the sake of the sphere of the path, the Sangha of those who have correct views. For the sake of the sphere of truth, the Sangha of the noble ones. For the sake of the sphere of meditative concentration, the Sangha of those who are in equipoise. For the sake of the sphere of dependent origination, the Sangha of those who have thoroughly turned the wheel of Dharma. Because they possess great compassion, the Sangha of those who do not turn back. Because they have accumulated all collections of merit, the Sangha of those who are bound by one lifetime, so he thinks. Thereupon, the Bodhisattva, in this way, recollecting the Sangha, thinks thus: "Whatever are the true qualities of the Sangha, may I and all sentient beings accomplish them as well." Thinking thus, this is called the mindfulness of the Bodhisattva's recollection of the Sangha. Thereupon, what is the mindfulness of the Bodhisattva's recollection of ethics? Here, the Bodhisattva thinks thus: "Whatever worldly and transworldly perfections there may be, all of them appear to arise from ethics." Why is that? Because ethics is the abode of all those perfections. Just as the earth is the abode of all medicines, grasses, and forests, so too, ethics is the abode of all perfections. The Bodhisattva, abiding in the abode of ethics, is a place of offering for the world, together with the gods. He completely accomplishes the Dharma of offering. The Bodhisattva who abides in the abode of ethics is one who generates joy. With joy in his mind, there is no regret.

Without regret, one obtains supreme joy. Through supreme joy, body and mind become exceedingly pliable. Through exceedingly pliable body and mind, one obtains samadhi. By evenly placing the mind, one sees reality as it is. A Bodhisattva who sees reality as it is thinks: "May great compassion arise in me for all sentient beings." They also think: "I shall enable all sentient beings to attain this gate of samadhi and to see all phenomena as they truly are." Impelled by that great compassion, they perfect the trainings of higher morality, higher mind, and higher wisdom, and thus manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Therefore, I too shall abide in morality, unmoving and unslackening. I shall keep all sentient beings in mind and guard my morality. Why is that? Because the morality of a Bodhisattva abides for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, and not for non-abiding. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva thinks thus: The morality of a Bodhisattva's renunciation completely perfects the absence of harmful intent. The morality of a Bodhisattva's going forth completely perfects the abandonment of all possessions. The morality of a Bodhisattva's training and vows, and the correct upholding of discipline, completely perfects the purification of body, speech, and mind. The morality of a Bodhisattva's determination completely perfects the six superknowledges. The morality of a Bodhisattva's correct abiding within completely perfects the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment. The morality of a Bodhisattva's listening to the Dharma completely perfects the four kinds of perfect knowledge. The morality of a Bodhisattva's seeking to hear completely perfects the absence of pride. The morality of a Bodhisattva's attending upon virtuous friends completely perfects all qualities of virtue, without diminishing. The morality of a Bodhisattva's perfections is

It perfects the wisdom of all omniscience. The discipline of a Bodhisattva who teaches the Dharma as he has heard it perfects the speaker of the Dharma himself. The discipline of a Bodhisattva who contemplates the Dharma as he has heard it perfects the attainment of dharanis and fearlessness. The discipline of a Bodhisattva's mind of enlightenment perfects the correct liberation in all births. The discipline of a Bodhisattva without anger towards all sentient beings perfects the non-degeneration of the mind of enlightenment. The discipline of a Bodhisattva's non-degeneration of the mind of enlightenment perfects the non-degeneration of the Three Jewels. Furthermore, thinking thus: by keeping the discipline, all that should be kept is kept, such thinking, this is called the mindfulness of the discipline of a son of good family, a Bodhisattva. What is the mindfulness of the giving of a Bodhisattva? Here, a Bodhisattva thinks thus: whatever is empty, all is like this, that is, included in the two types of giving, material giving and Dharma giving. Among them, with material giving, the Bodhisattva's excellent marks and signs are not abandoned, the Buddha's pure land is completely purified, and the purification that makes sentient beings mature is perfected. With Dharma giving, the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha are perfected. It also correctly establishes habits. Furthermore, with material giving, all aggregates are definitely abandoned. With Dharma giving, all the deeds of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas are correctly liberated. Furthermore, with material giving, the body of birth is completely joined. With Dharma giving, the body of Dharma is completely enjoyed. Furthermore, son of good family, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with material giving, accomplishes the power arising from defeat. That power is the Tathagata and the ten grounds.
