This is the place of a hundred thousand different perceptions. This is like a collection of many substances, such as: hair, body hair, nails, teeth, bones, skin, flesh, body, tendons, fat, oil, pus, spleen, urine, feces, stomach, large intestine, blood, nasal mucus, bile, pus, saliva, brain, and marrow. Since so many substances are gathered together, how should this be called a body? Thus, mindfulness is kept close to the body. When contemplating each separately, one thinks: this body is like the sky. Thinking thus, mindfulness is kept close to the body as if it were the sky. All of it appears like the sky. To fully understand the body, do not let mindfulness enter anywhere in the body. Do not turn back. Because it does not enter and does not turn back, it is called abiding in mindfulness. By abiding in mindfulness in this way, one knows the body as it is, and there is nothing to be attached to in this. Why? Because wherever there is attachment, it is all improper. This is called the mindfulness of the body of a Bodhisattva. What then is the mindfulness of feelings of a Bodhisattva? Here, a Bodhisattva thinks thus: what is called feeling is understanding, and that understanding is also liberated from the inverted, the non-inverted, and both. For those foolish ordinary people whose minds are distracted and inverted, their feelings are inverted. They perceive impermanence as permanence, perceive suffering as happiness, perceive selflessness as self, and perceive impurity as purity. This is the inverted feeling. If one perceives impermanence as impermanence, perceives suffering as suffering, perceives selflessness as selflessness, and perceives impurity as impurity, this is the feeling of the Hearers. If one perceives impermanence as impermanence and also as not impermanence, perceives suffering as suffering and also as neither suffering nor happiness, perceives selflessness as selflessness and also as not selflessness, perceives impurity as impurity and also as not impurity, these are the feelings of the Bodhisattvas.
